Read Between the Wines is more than a fundraiser. It is a powerful evening of reflection, where we get to hear the meaningful impact the VLP has on our community!🗣️✨

During the evening’s celebration, Shirley Brewer, a local poet and longtime member of our 2nd Wednesday planning committee, shared a beautiful poem from one of her books and reflected on why the VLP means so much to her.

Her words were a reminder that the VLP continues to be a space where the community can learn, tell their stories, and connect with neighbors in meaningful ways.

“Where creativity and individuality blend into the kaleidoscope of inspiration and resourcefulness.” 🧶✨ At Read Between the Wines, Carmen, the leader of our Let’s Crochet club, spoke about the importance of having spaces where people feel encouraged to try new things, connect with others, and create together. In honor of the Village Learning Place, she unveiled a beautiful, collaborative tapestry they crocheted.

Did you know the VLP garden has a children’s garden?🌻 🌱 This semester, our LINK students set out to make it even more beautiful by creating a full presentation and detailed budget to secure a grant through the Maryland Youth Advisory Council.

Students from Mr. Daniel’s class, Eli, Lydia, Kylie, and Maddi, shared their plans with guests. One student shared that it felt “like taking care of our own backyard,” since the garden is now just steps away from where the LINK students meet.

It was a powerful reminder of what can happen when students’ ideas are supported by a community that shows up for them 🤍

P.S. Join us for the LINK end-of-year celebration on May 20th starting at 5:30 PM, where the students will be planting a variety of fruits and vegetables together and continuing to grow the space as a community 🌿✨
