Baltimore City Health Department Staying Alive Program

Baltimore City Health Department Staying Alive Program More than 220 reversals have been recorded, which shows that the program has been a great success thus far.

The Baltimore City Health Department Staying Alive Program educates individuals about the effects of a heroin/opiate overdose and how to recognize an overdose so that they can respond appropriately and administer Naloxone/Narcan, a known opioid antagonist The Baltimore Staying Alive Program was first established in 2004 and has since taught over 11,000 individuals (injection drug users, drug treat

ment clients and providers, prison inmates, and corrections officers) about how to prevent and respond to an opiod overdose. The program teaches individuals how to recognize signs of an overdose and respond effectively by calling 911 and performing rescue breathing as well as administering the drug Naloxone (also known as Narcan).
