Northwest District Attempted Murder Arrest

In reference to an aggravated assault that occurred in the Northwest District, Baltimore detectives have arrested 23-year-old Abubakarr Barrie of Baltimore.

Barrie was wanted in connection with the stabbing of a 15-year-old girl that occurred on October 22, 2026, in the 3800 block of Belle Avenue.

On October 24, 2026, investigators apprehended Abubakarr Barrie in the 3700 block of Garrison Boulevard and transported him to the Central Booking Intake Facility, where he was charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder and multiple counts of assault.

End of Watch: October 24, 1955 - Sergeant James J. Purcell

On this day, Sgt. Purcell was shot and killed with his own service revolver during a struggle at a domestic dispute call in the 100 block of West Lanvale Street.

The suspect was also shot and killed by other responding officers.

Sergeant Purcell had served with the Department for 16 years. We will never forget.

Northeast District Juvenile Armed Carjacking Arrest

On October 8, 2026, at approximately 11:38 p.m., officers responded to the 1300 block of Cedarcroft Road regarding a commercial armed robbery and carjacking. Upon arrival, officers interviewed the victim, who reported being approached by an unidentified male suspect while making a food delivery.

The suspect forcibly took the victim's wallet, phone, and vehicle keys. Additionally, the suspect brandished a black handgun before fleeing the scene in the victim’s vehicle.

On October 22, 2026, at approximately 2:00 p.m., detectives from the Warrant Apprehension Task Force, arrested a 16-year-old male in the 300 block of Gay Street. The suspect was transported to the Central Booking intake facility for processing.

Central District Juvenile Armed Robbery Arrest

On October 21, 2026, at approximately 12:45 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of North Caroline Street for an armed robbery. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the victim, who reported being approached by two unidentified male suspects. The suspects forcibly took the victim's jacket and shoes, and one suspect reportedly brandished a black handgun.

Following an area canvass, officers located a 14-year-old male and a 13-year-old male matching the suspects' descriptions. A black BB gun and the victim's stolen property were recovered. Both suspects were transported to Juvenile Booking for processing.

Southwest District Homicide Arrest

In reference to the homicide that occurred in the Southwest District, detectives have arrested 38-year-old Eric Clayton Cooke of Baltimore.

Cook was wanted in connection with the aggravated assault of 34-year-old Breon Turner that occurred in the 1900 block of Ramsey Street on October 14, 2026. Turner later died at an area hospital on October 19, 2026.

On October 20, 2026, Warrant Apprehension detectives arrested Cooke without incident in the 4900 block of Hamilton Avenue. Eric Clayton Cooke was transported to the Central Booking Intake Facility, where he was charged with attempted first-degree murder. Upgraded charges are currently pending following the findings of the Medical Examiner's Office.

From recognizing our honorees and celebrating alongside their loved ones, to the Honor Guard and our emcee, Jason Newton of WBAL-TV, it was a memorable evening celebrating the individuals who make a difference across our agency.

End of Watch: October 20, 2010 – Police Officer Tommy Portz

On this day, Police Officer Tommy Portz was killed in an automobile crash when his patrol car struck the back of a firetruck that stopped on Route 40 near Calhoun Street.

The firetruck had responded to reports of an injured person lying in the highway median strip and had stopped in the left lane to ask a film crew if they had seen the subject.

Officer Portz's patrol car collided with the back of the stopped truck at a high rate of speed, causing him to suffer fatal injuries.

Officer Portz had served with the Baltimore Police Department for just under 10 years. We will never forget.
