ABET We're a nonprofit quality assurance organization focused on higher education programs. Our more than 2,200 experts come from industry, academia, and government.

Through our services and global partnerships, we help prepare the next generation of students build a safer, more efficient and sustainable world. We accredit college and university programs in the disciplines of applied and natural science, computing, engineering and engineering technology at the associate, bachelor's and master's degree levels. With ABET accreditation, students, employers and th

e society we serve can be confident that a program meets the quality standards that produce graduates prepared to enter a global workforce. We began as the educational standard against which professional engineers in the United States were held for licensure. Today, after more than 80 years, our standards continue to play this fundamental role and have become the basis of quality for over 40 disciplines all over the world. Developed by technical professionals from ABET’s member societies, our criteria focus on what students experience and learn. Sought worldwide, ABET’s voluntary peer-review process is highly respected because it adds critical value to academic programs in the technical disciplines, where quality, precision and safety are of the utmost importance. They give their time and effort supporting quality assurance activities around the world by serving as program evaluators, commissioners, board members and advisors.

ABET recognizes June as LGBTQIA2S+ Pride Month and encourages reflection on how we build learning environments where every student feels welcome, respected and able to succeed.

When the roughly one in ten postsecondary students who identify as LGBTQIA2S+ or gender-diverse (based on the most recent available federal postsecondary data) feel safe, respected and visible, STEM education becomes stronger, more creative and more innovative. Pride Month is also a reminder that students are more likely to persist when they can see a future for themselves in their chosen field.

What seems like small choices can have a huge impact on students’ experiences. ABET encourages educators and institutions to foster holistic learning environments through actions such as using people-first language, respecting names and pronouns, addressing bias and ensuring all students can fully participate without hiding part of themselves.

A stronger future for STEM is one where everyone can participate fully, contribute openly and feel they belong. 🌈

ABET recognizes May as Mental Health Awareness Month and encourages all ABET constituents to recognize that mental health is just as important as physical health.

According to the 2024–2025 Healthy Minds Study of 84,000+ students at 135 colleges and universities, 37% screened positive for moderate or severe depression, 33% screened positive for moderate or severe anxiety, and 45% screened positive for either depression or anxiety.

ABET encourages everyone committed to ensuring excellence in quality assurance in higher education to take the time to understand mental health better and to both support others and seek help for themselves when needed.
