NNC welcomed Abigail Degler and Dylan Robichaud from WMAR to speak with members during its monthly Village Gathering hosted at the Myerberg Center.

The gathering highlighted the connection between CHAI’s programs, with the Myerberg Center serving as a welcoming space where NNC members can come together for conversations, programming, and community-building opportunities throughout the year.

Following their visit, Dylan shared on-air how much they enjoyed the experience, calling it “one of the more fun talks” he’s given because of how engaging the group was. The conversation covered everything from lightning and local forecasting to how meteorologists use artificial intelligence in weather prediction.

Moments like these reflect what makes both NNC and the Myerberg Center so special: creating opportunities for older adults to stay socially engaged, connected, and part of a welcoming community.

During Maryland’s 2026 legislative session, CHAI helped advance several housing and community development priorities aimed at supporting long-term neighborhood stability and quality of life.

This included legislation expanding access to housing counseling services for first-time homebuyers, helping reinforce the importance of early support in preventing housing instability. Lawmakers also passed legislation to study the growing challenges facing aging condominium buildings, an important step toward preserving affordability and safety for older adults living on fixed incomes.

We also joined local partners in supporting community-centered provisions within the Pimlico legislation to help ensure surrounding neighborhoods remain part of future planning and investment.

The session brought important funding support for local priorities, including capital dollars for Fallstaff Apartments and programmatic support through the Maryland Department of Aging, helping position key projects and initiatives for continued progress in the year ahead.

Behind every ride, warm welcome, and daily connection is someone choosing to show up for their community.

In March alone, three dedicated CHAIway Volunteer drivers supported 23 ride requests for older adults traveling to medical appointments, errands, and essential day-to-day activities that help maintain independence and connection.

That same spirit continues across CHAI, including at the Myerberg Center, where nearly 50 volunteers help create a welcoming space where older adults feel supported, engaged, and known. That commitment was recently celebrated during a volunteer appreciation lunch honoring the people who give their time to strengthen the community every day.

Across every program, volunteers help build the relationships and social connections that allow older adults to remain rooted in the communities they love.

A cloudy morning quickly turned into a beautiful day for NNC’s visit to Ladew Topiary Gardens.

Twelve members rode together on CHAI’s shuttle to spend the day exploring the gardens and touring the Manor House. Along the way, something even more meaningful stood out: community.

One participant had joined NNC just the day before and shared how welcomed and included the group made her feel right away.

That’s what NNC is all about.

Nearly 30 community members joined artist Jay Wolf Schlossberg-Cohen at the Edward A. Myerberg Center for a hands-on workshop that went beyond painting.

Participants created artwork from simple prompts and shared personal memories of Park Heights, adding a meaningful layer to the experience.

The pieces will be incorporated into a final installation at Park West Belvedere Avenue, helping shape a space rooted in the community.

This year, ten families in the 21215 area became homeowners with CHAI's support. Through the Homebuyer Incentive Grant, we invested $50,000 directly into new homeowners, granting each family $5,000 to help cover the upfront costs of buying a first home.

Today, those families are settling into their homes, getting to know their neighbors, and putting down roots in the communities they love.

With funding for the Homebuyer Incentive Grant fully awarded, we’re proud to continue offering low‑interest loans and HUD‑certified counseling to support residents at every stage of the homeownership journey. Learn more on our website or subscribe to CHAILights for future updates:

This week, Jack visited CHAI with his mom, brother, and sister to hand deliver a special donation.

Each year for his birthday, Jack asks friends and family to bring $5 to his party to support a cause instead of giving gifts. This year, when he learned there are organizations that support older adults, he immediately wanted to help.

Inspired by his “grand-friend” Matty, a lifelong family friend he loves dearly, Jack chose to support CHAI and the older adults we serve.

We were so touched by his kindness, generosity, and thoughtfulness at such a young age. It was a joy to thank him with a CHAI swag bag full of goodies, and even more meaningful to see how excited he was to give back.

Thank you, Jack, for reminding all of us that you are never too young to make a difference!
