Pride of Baltimore II

Pride of Baltimore II America's Star-Spangled Ambassador PRIDE OF BALTIMORE II is a reconstruction of an early 19th-century Baltimore Clipper.

These sleek, fast, and maneuverable vessels became famous as privateers during the War of 1812. Their success in capturing British merchant ships inspired the Royal Navy’s attack on Baltimore in 1814. When Francis Scott Key saw the American flag still flying after the all-night bombardment of Fort McHenry, he was inspired to pen the “Star-Spangled Banner.”

Voyage Update | Rockland Bound

PRIDE II will be getting underway from Boston tomorrow, Wednesday, August 18, & making her way back up the coast to Rockland, Maine. Later today we will sharing a fresh Captain's Log from Captain Miles & just turned over command with Captain Crosby.

More about our upcoming visit, situated about halfway up Maine’s rugged coastline, Rockland is a historic working waterfront on Penobscot Bay. Known as the 'Lobster Capital of the World', the city has long been shaped by its fishing industry & maritime heritage, while also becoming a hidden gem of Maine’s Midcoast with a thriving restaurant & arts scene.

It is also home to the Sail, Power and Steam Museum & several vessels from Maine’s iconic Windjammer fleet, including Schooner American Eagle, Sail Grace Bailey, The Schooner Heritage, , Schooner J&E Riggin, Schooner Ladona, & Schooner Stephen Taber.

While in Rockland, PRIDE II will docked at the Rockland Public Landing & open to the public for FREE deck tours:
Saturday, August 22, 3- 7 PM
Sunday, August 23, 3-7 PM

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who helped PRIDE II raise $5,388 during this year’s Virtual Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race.

Those funds will help us prioritize welcoming recent & soon-to-be graduates of the Alexandria Seaport Foundation’s apprenticeship program aboard PRIDE II for hands-on sailing experience.

At the Alexandria Seaport Foundation, apprentices build confidence, discipline, resiliency & problem-solving skills through traditional boatbuilding, woodworking, navigation & sailing. Now, we hope to help take that experience from the workshop to the water.

From learning traditional skills in the shop to taking the helm, racing down the Bay & working alongside PRIDE II’s professional crew, these young adults will have the opportunity to expand their skills, gain professional experience & explore what a future career aboard a world-class tall ship can look like.

Thank you for helping us create that opportunity.

Thank you! Together, the 2026 Virtual Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race raised $66,347.03 for nonprofit organizations dedicated to the Chesapeake Bay, maritime history & inspiring the next generation of environmental & maritime stewards.

Since 2020, the Virtual GCBSR has now raised more than $369,700 in support of these important causes.

Thank you to everyone who donated, shared & supported this year's race. We are incredibly grateful.

We must board them!

We are now in the final hours of the Virtual GCBSR & we need your help to retake the lead. While a boarding party sounds like more fun, the only way we can win is by reaching our fundraising goal.

This year, two Alexandria Seaport Foundation apprentices are racing aboard Pride of Baltimore II. With your help, we can give more young adults that opportunity next year.

Our goal is to raise $6,000 to fill all six available guest crew berths aboard Pride II with young adults who will sail, learn & race alongside our professional crew.

If you see two schooners under sail, you're in desperate need of a vacation. This is actually just two holes in a vinyl bus seat.

Just kidding, it is Pride of Baltimore II & Bluenose II sailing in company following their departure from Lunenburg earlier this week. Now that we got your attention, we are closing in on our fundraising goal for this year's Virtual GCBSR fund race.

Make a gift today to help us meet our goal & give young adults the opportunity to race aboard PRIDE OF BALTIMORE II in the 2027 Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race from Baltimore to Norfolk. Donate: https://bit.ly/VGCBSR2026Pride2

Go, PRIDE II, GO!

It's now day 3 of the Virtual Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race & some of the fleet has reached their goals. With just over 24 hours to go, with your help we have raised over $2,100 toward our $6,000 goal which will give young adults the opportunity to experience life aboard Maryland's sailing ambassador during the 2027 Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race.

This is far more than a harbor sail. Participants will spend multiple days aboard PRIDE II, learning practical seamanship, standing watch and becoming part of the crew as we race down the Chesapeake Bay. Along the way, they will build confidence, leadership & teamwork while discovering potential maritime careers & developing a lasting connection to the Chesapeake Bay.

Your gift helps make those opportunities possible by underwriting participant berths & covering the professional instruction, safety oversight, provisions & operational support required for the experience. By removing financial barriers, we can open the door to young adults who might not otherwise have the opportunity to step aboard.

Help us win this race, so more young adults can have the chance to race the next one: https://bit.ly/VGCBSR2026Pride2

All hands on deck! It's now day 2 of the Virtual Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race -- an online fundraiser where schooners "race" to raise the most money for their cause. Overnight, PRIDE II has fallen back to 5th place. We need your help to keep us in the race & help us reach our goal of $6,000 which will allow us to give six young adults the chance to race down the Bay on board PRIDE OF BALTIMORE II as guest crew in the 2026 GCBSR.

Help us win the whole frickin' thing, donate by going to https://bit.ly/VGCBSR2026Pride2

Virtual Race Update | Dueling it out with mighty VIRGINIA

Hey schooner fans, Day 1 of the Virtual GCBSR fund race is in underway. PRIDE II is presently in fourth place trailing just behind VIRGINIA. Tugantine Norfolk Rebel & JOLLY DOLPHIN racing for Magothy River Association are leading the fleet.

Help us stay in the race & bring home a win, which will allow us to give six young adults the chance to race down the Bay in The Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race in 2027.
