It's true! Cervical cancer can affect any woman who is – or has been – sexually active with a man or a woman. It occurs in women who have had a virus called HPV (human papilloma virus), though most women with HPV don’t develop cervical cancer.
We can help you get tested! Call your local health department or 1-800-477-9774.

MYTH: Women who have sex with women (WSW) don't need Pap tests. --- The idea that WSW don’t need preventive screening is based on a number of misunderstandings and out-dated thinking. #YesMeansTest #GetTested

Some great information about breast biopsies. The most important point is that if you need a biopsy, it doesn't mean you have cancer!
Our programs as well as our sister program, the Breast and Cervical Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Program cover biopsy costs for uninsured women.

“Just because you need a breast biopsy doesn’t mean you have cancer. In fact, most breast biopsies turn out to be benign (not cancerous),” says our expert Dr. Marion Scoggins. #endcancer

Breaking Down Health Care Barriers for LGBT Community

June is National Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈
Studies have found that lesbians and bisexual women have higher rates of breast cancer than heterosexual women and get less routine health care than other women, including breast, and cervical cancer screening. Our program can help with that! Call your local health department or 1-800-477-9774 for more information.

Research suggests that barriers to health care are among the challenges faced by the LGBT community.

“The majority of caregivers are women. They are our mothers, grandmothers, wives, daughters, sisters, and nieces who unselfishly put the needs of others over their own needs. If you are that woman, take time today to find your health. Make your physical, mental, and emotional well-being your number one priority.”

Lower-fat diet reduces women’s risk of dying from breast cancer, study says

"[T]he study showed that women could improve their health by making modest changes in what and how much they eat. 'This is dietary moderation. It’s not like eating twigs and branches,” he said. “It’s what people were eating, say, 20 years ago, before you could pick up 900 calories in one candy bar.'"

A low-fat diet rich in fruits, vegetables and grains may lower women’s risk of dying of breast cancer, according to the results of a major study released Wednesday. “Confession: I have a bad habit of putting all of my annual, crucial health checkups — physical, dentist, eye doctor, derm — near the bottom of my to-do list. I’d never let my kids miss a checkup, but I’m too lenient with myself! So lately, I’ve been trying to schedule the next one while I’m checking out to ensure it’s blocked on my calendar in the future. That simple step has made me a lot more accountable!”

Did you see the Google Doodle today? That's Georgios Papanikolaou, who with his wife, Andromachi Mavroyenis, pioneered the Pap test. Thanks to the Pap test, It is estimated that between 105,000 and 492,000 cases of cervical cancer have been prevented in the US over the past three decades!

The pathologist revolutionized early cancer detection and founded an entire scientific discipline.
