Yesterday, members of the BJFD had a great time connecting with the awesome volunteers at LifeWise Academy!

We walked through essential, life-saving skills including:

Hands-Only CPR and AED use
EpiPen administration
Tourniquet application

Starting September 1, the Basil Joint Fire District, along with all Fairfield County fire departments, has officially transitioned to Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) dispatching!

What is AVL & How Does It Benefit Our Community?

-Previously, dispatching sent emergency units based on pre-assigned geographic jurisdictions or static station locations.
-With state-of-the-art AVL technology, real-time GPS tracking allows dispatchers to pinpoint the exact position of every fire engine, medic, ladder and rescue in the county.
-When you dial 911, the dispatch system automatically identifies and dispatches the closest available unit, regardless of municipal boundaries or station assignments. While BJFD equipment will be dispatched on every call in our jurisdiction, the high priority calls, such as cardiac arrest, will look to use this AVL technology to decrease response times.

-Seconds Save Lives: If any fire department apparatus is near your neighborhood, AVL recognizes that unit is closer than a crew back at a station—shaving critical minutes off response times.
-County-Wide Seamless Integration: Every department in Fairfield County is participating, ensuring optimal resource-sharing and emergency coverage across borders.
-Modern Emergency Infrastructure: This technology puts Fairfield County at the forefront of modern Public Safety Telecommunications, utilizing live telemetry to coordinate emergency services efficiently.

The Village of Baltimore has announced that Trick-Or-Treat will be on October 29th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Make sure to stop by Main St and Market St or Basil St and Market St to see your fire department. We will be giving out our traditional glow necklaces for safety and have on some of our emergency lights to remind motorist to slow down during the event.

This week the BJFD and WTFD got an up-close look at EVs with Bad Day Training, learning what responders need to know when electric vehicles and lithium-ion batteries catch fire.

These incidents come with different challenges. Knowing what you’re dealing with before the call comes in can make all the difference.

Thanks to Fairfield County EMA for organizing and sponsoring the training for us and all Departments in the County.

Yesterday the BJFD along with representative from Christa Grover/Lew Griffin Insurance delivered aid items to the victims of the disaster in Perry County. Thanks to Mayor Rick Ellas, Hugh White Chevrolet, Baltimore ACE Hardware, Christa and Alayna Grover and to our community for all of the donations and supplies.
