We know, no one gets excited about paying taxes.

But when you see your tax dollars at work, we hope it brings some comfort knowing those dollars help save lives.

Tax dollars help fund the life-saving services we all depend on in Bamberg County.

When you call 911 in your worst moment, you expect someone to answer.
When there’s a fire, you expect trained firefighters to respond.
When there’s a medical emergency, you expect EMS to arrive with the equipment and training needed to save lives.
When danger strikes, you expect law enforcement to protect our community.

These essential services require funding, equipment, training, vehicles, technology, and dedicated professionals working around the clock.

Today, we simply want to say THANK YOU to our firefighters, EMS teams, 911 dispatchers, and law enforcement officers who serve Bamberg County with courage, commitment, and compassion.

We are grateful for the men and women who stand ready every single day to keep our families safe. ❤️🚑🚒🚓☎️

Regarding the SC250 Grant:

A grant is not free money to spend any way you want.

When Bamberg County gets a grant, there are rules.

The money must be used only for what the grant says it is for.

For example, if the grant is for history, tourism, or signs, the money cannot be used for something else like roads, paying bills, or other projects.

Grant money is checked.

That means there are:
✅ Rules to follow
✅ Reports to turn in
✅ Receipts to keep
✅ Audits to make sure the money was spent the right way

So no, Bamberg County cannot just take grant money and spend it on whatever people think it should be used for.

Now, what is the SC250 Commission?

The SC250 Commission is a South Carolina group that helps celebrate the 250th birthday of America and South Carolina’s part in the Revolutionary War.

They give grants to help communities teach history, protect historic places, create signs, and bring visitors to learn about our past.

That’s the purpose for the project on Railroad Avenue.

Many in our community have been asking about the construction activity on Railroad Street, here’s the answer.

Bamberg County was awarded a $100,000 SC250 site grant from the South Carolina American Revolution Sestercentennial Commission to support the development of the Revolutionary War Veterans Plaza & Park (250 Plaza) as an expansion of Veterans Park.

This project will honor the men and women who served during the Revolutionary War, including the often-overlooked contributions of free and enslaved men of color, while telling a more complete story of Bamberg County’s rich historical significance.

The expansion will include:
🇺🇸 A commemorative sculpture
🇺🇸 Historical plaques recognizing recorded local service members🇺🇸 Educational interpretation about the Charleston-Augusta Highway and railroad’s role in our region’s development
🇺🇸 Enhancements designed to support tourism, downtown revitalization, economic growth, and community pride

This investment is part of Bamberg County’s broader long-term vision for community growth, historic preservation, and economic development.

What you’re seeing on Railroad Street is progress, building a space that honors our past while investing in our future.

We will celebrate this historical occasion on June 27th, 2026.

Stay tuned for more information as we move closer to completion.
