🚨 TRAFFIC ADVISORY ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE ⚠️

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) will close the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 301 at Cooper Swamp (Mile Marker 4.78) in Orangeburg County beginning
🚨Monday, May 12, 2026, due to storm-related bridge damage requiring emergency repairs.

At this time, one northbound lane is already closed, and both northbound lanes will be closed to allow crews to safely complete repairs. The southbound lanes will remain open to traffic.

Motorists traveling in the area are urged to plan ahead, expect delays, and use caution when approaching the work zone. Please consider alternate routes if possible.

The Bamberg County Sheriff’s Office encourages all drivers to slow down, stay alert, and help keep roadway workers and fellow motorists safe.

🚨PUBLIC INFORMATION UPDATE:

The Bamberg County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank everyone who has expressed concern regarding the dog posted to social media. We appreciate the community’s care and attention.

After review, it has been confirmed that the dog’s residence is outside the jurisdiction of Bamberg County. The appropriate steps have been taken to ensure the matter is addressed properly. The City of Bamberg has been notified, and the City of Bamberg Police Department has stepped in to handle the situation moving forward.

We appreciate the public’s cooperation and understanding as we continue to work collaboratively with our municipal partners to ensure matters are addressed by the appropriate authority.

Bamberg County is experiencing freezing road conditions, particularly along Highway 78, Highway 301, and Voorhees Road. While some areas may currently appear passable, conditions are expected to deteriorate as temperatures continue to drop.

❄️ Please STAY INDOORS🚨 🚗

If you HAVE to travel please:
✅Reduce speed
✅ Increase following distance
✅ AGAIN…Avoid unnecessary travel if possible.

County officials will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as they become available.
