Any time there is any rotation spotted and reported to 911 dispatch in any part of Cuming County, dispatch will remotely turn on the sirens in all Cuming County towns and villages. That is why they came on briefly before the power went out. Rotation was spotted in another part of the county.
However......
The Village of Bancroft tornado sirens rely on commercial power to operate. In the event of a power outage, the sirens will not sound because they are not equipped with battery backup systems. (Then, when power in Bancroft came back on tonight, that's why the sirens sounded again.)
For this reason, we strongly encourage all residents to have multiple ways to receive severe weather alerts, especially during storms. Weather radios, smartphone emergency alerts, local radio stations, and trusted weather apps are all important tools for staying informed and safe.
Please do not rely solely on outdoor warning sirens for emergency notifications.
Here's a picture of what blew through Bancroft tonight. This was taken looking South West on T road about 2 miles west of Bancroft looking towards HWY 51.
