Your Lakeshore Volunteer Fire Department just responded to a medical emergency on Tejas Trail.
We respond to many calls in that section of our community and getting to our patients or to a house fire quickly is essential.
We push our response speed to the max posted while keeping it safe because "TIME IS LIFE" in our business.
Yet, in that area we have to slow down to a crawl in many areas because of the horrible road conditions.
Pot holes and craters that tear up our emergency response vehicles and personal response vehicles require us to extend the time it takes to get there. If it is raining we can't see the problem until we hit them and they cause damage and delays.
The delay, and absolute concern, applies to the ambulance enroute and leaving for the hospital with your family member or neighbor.
Minutes, even seconds, count if we are coming to save your loved one having a heart attack, stroke or caught in your home on fire.
These road conditions have been a serious matter for the four years I've been your Fire Chief, and I'm certain for many years prior as well.
The roads don't belong to the county, so it's up to whoever is in charge of them here.
Something MUST be done to fix the roads to a safe standard for the sake of saving lives and just for the safe driving of all who live in the community and ride the school buses.
Getting this situation fixed is out of my power. It's going to take the community as a whole to rise up and demand accountability for the maintenance that is required to be done on a regular basis.
The time for allowing whoever is responsible to kick the can down the road for another year is over.
I only come out on our community social media when it is important to the people we serve as your Fire Department leader and this is no exception.
Time = Life!!
Safety = Life!!
LIFE COUNTS!!
Thanks,
Chief Eric
