At the June 1 meeting of the Bandon City Council, the Greater Bandon Association named Michelle Hoffman Bandon’s Volunteer of the Month. She received a commemorative plaque and a gift certificate from 2 Mile Bistro.
For decades, Michelle has supported the local economy through her business, Forget My Knots. Her quilt shop has drawn customers from along the coast, and her retreats have attracted quilting enthusiasts from far beyond the area. However, it was her many hours of volunteer service that earned her this recognition.
Anyone who has enjoyed Old-Fashioned Apple Pie and Ice Cream on the Boardwalk on the Fourth of July should know that this fundraiser has been made possible largely through the efforts of Michelle and her family. She secures the pies, delivers them to the boardwalk the night before, and spends the holiday serving pie and ice cream from noon through the cardboard boat races until dusk, as people gather for the fireworks.
If you have participated in the Cranberry Festival parade, chances are Michelle greeted you when you registered your entry.
Michelle has served on the Greater Bandon Association’s Board of Directors since the organization incorporated in 2012. For many of those years, she also served as the board’s treasurer.
The Greater Bandon Association will continue honoring Bandon volunteers who make a difference in the community each month. Nominations for the July award must be emailed to [email protected] or mailed to P.O. Box 161 by the close of business on June 30.
