I'm angry! How could this happen?! Lobsters are crucial to Maine. It's a $1,000,000,000 a year industry (at least 😉.)

It happened on page 2,497 of 3,268 of the National Defense(whale?) bill, SECTION 5705. NEAR REAL-TIME MONITORING AND MITIGATION PROGRAMS FOR LARGE WHALES. $25 million cost.

Near real-time is defined as within 24 hours, as in, YESTERDAY a whale was here, please stay away. Your easy breakaway line isn't enough to protect one of the worlds largest and more intelligent mammals from harm. The bill also hopes to reduce whale and boat collisions, but wants lobster boats to be silent, even though we know whales will try to avoid the noise. This is not sufficient cause to shut down an entire segment of the industry!!

This is the trash I want to keep out of bills, it has no place in the bill and is HORRIBLE for my state of Maine!

I mean, you can't lose the seat if you don't let anyone else get on the ballot, right? Per the law, we can start collecting our 1,000 signatures on January 1st, but the state of Maine doesn't have the forms ready for us to use. This is a serious government failure!!
