WATER INTERRUPTION NOTICE: The City of Bangs Public Works Department is planning to tie in new water lines, which will require all water to be shut off to the City on MONDAY, AUGUST 11, 2025.
Time of Outage: Approximately 8 am to 5 pm

This season I made a small change to how I wanted to travel, especially when I’m on solo trips.

To the extent I could, I wanted to skip the big box hotels we see everywhere now. For one, loading and unloading gear from a parking lot, through a lobby, and up the elevator isn’t easy when you travel with as much as my crew and I do.

Additionally, the big box hotels may be easy to Google or rack up points with, but they lack the local character of small locally owned Motels and Motor Courts.

With the small Mom and Pop stays like Bangs Court and Desert Air Motel I stayed at this week, I can pull up to my room, unload directly in the door, and spend a little time outside whenever I want.

Not to mention these small businesses tend to use more local services and keep more of the dollars spent there directly in their community.

We travel to see something different, to meet folks we’ve never met, and experience the places the way the locals do. So yeah, it’s a little more work to find and book a place like this, but that’s the point.

The friction is part of the fun. The discovery is the point.

It’s just a small way we are trying to put our money where our mouth is and support the small towns and back roads we love to celebrate on this show.

Just an FYI...all railroad crossings in Bangs EXCEPT the one by Dollar General are blocked by a stopped train.
