Been awhile since we have posted anything figured we would update everyone in our community on what our firefighters have been up to lately. Recently we have started clearing some property behind our station 1 to make room for more training grounds, which gave us the perfect opportunity to get some of our members who have never ran a chainsaw before some hands on training. We started with sawing up logs in positions we most likely would find when we get toned out for tree down calls, then moved on to some stump cutting to better understand cut angles and creating a notch if we needed to take down any large trees that were still standing.

🚨 STATEWIDE BURN BAN — ALL 100 NORTH CAROLINA COUNTIES
Effective 6 PM Saturday, March 28 — Until Further Notice

The NC Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning statewide and has canceled all previously issued burning permits, effective 6 p.m. today.

This means Watauga, Ashe, and Avery counties are all under the ban.

🚫 What is prohibited:
• All open burning — leaves, branches, yard debris
• Campfires
• Fireworks and pyrotechnic devices
• Any previously issued burn permits are now canceled

✅ What is still allowed:
• Grills and barbecues (unless local ordinances prohibit)
• Fire pits and outdoor fireplaces WITHIN 100 feet of an occupied dwelling (subject to local fire marshal authority)

⚠️ Violations: $100 fine + $183 court costs. Anyone who starts a fire may also be liable for the cost of suppression.

Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler cited drought conditions, forecasted fire weather, and limited rainfall as the reasons for the statewide action.

Call 911 to report a wildfire or anyone intentionally starting a fire.
