Yay! We have lots of fresh books for you to get started on summer reading! Our Reading Challenge begins Monday, so come by to sign up! No library card required to participate, just to check books out. Unearth those STORIES!

We also have new Summer Activity books with much thanks to The Michigan Learning Channel. Three age options for these free, awesome books. ❤

We are super grateful to have been chosen as one of ten libraries to receive a book kit from the Library of the Great Lakes for their inaugural FRESH COAST BOOKSHELF! What an awesome collection of Great Lakes authors we have to share! ❤

This week, we announced which libraries will be awarded our first ever Fresh Coast Library kit! We read over 100 applications, from towns of 300 residents to cities of 1.5 million, and we are so excited to share our decisions with you!

Each library will receive a curated selection of 12 books across age range and genre that celebrate the Great Lakes, as well as a promotional kit with posters, stickers, activity sheets, and more!

We wish we could send kits to every library that applied, and we are so appreciative of every group that took the time to tell us about their community. We were heartened to read how the Great Lakes play a role in so many diverse communities, and how literature can connect us all to the land we share. Libraries can still benefit from our program by downloading the poster and activity sheet from our website (link in comments), and we welcome any feedback for how to maximize our reach in future years! Community members can also help us expand by donating via our website.

Thank you to KBIC member Al Gauthier who loaned us his AIM memorabilia for a display, reminding us of the movement's important place in history. We have many books on the subject, lest we forget the sacrifices of many.

The American Indian Movement (AIM) is an American Indian grassroots movement founded in Minneapolis in July 1968. Initially centered in urban areas to address systemic issues of poverty, discrimination, and police brutality against American Indians, AIM soon widened its scope to many Indigenous Tribal issues that American Indian groups have faced due to settler colonialism in the Americas.
