Barboursville Volunteer Fire Department Barboursville Volunteer Fire Department (BVFD) has been providing fire & rescue services for the Village of Barboursville and surrounding areas since 1953.

The Barboursville Volunteer Fire Department is a team of dedicated volunteers serving the Village of Barboursville and Cabell County through emergency response, training, prevention, and public education. When BVFD began, there were 20 members in a two-bay station. Currently, BVFD has a six-bay station holding 3 Engines, a 110' Ladder Truck, a Heavy Rescue truck, & Light Rescue Truck, and 39 membe

rs. The BVFD fire district is 25 square miles and includes 9,500 residential homes, 800 businesses, and a daytime population of approximately 35,000. BVFD responds to approximately 900-1200 calls per year. The calls range from residential fire alarms and commercial structure fires to motor vehicle accidents and technical rescue including HAZMAT and Swift Water Rescue response

To become a member, please call our station during normal business hours or stop by Monday evenings around 7pm.

September 1st done strutted into the Village wearing flip-flops and a wool scarf—because apparently fall is just a rumor and the heat wave has decided to squat here awhile. 🥵🍂

The kids are back in school, football season is warming up, and everybody’s air conditioner is hanging on by one loose wire and the grace of the good Lord. Drink plenty of water, check on your elderly neighbors, keep the young’uns and critters outta parked vehicles, and give your extension cords a break before they start sizzling like bacon.

Slow down for school buses, buckle everybody up, and don’t toss ci******es out the window unless you’re trying to summon BVFD and we promise, there are easier ways to get our attention.

Stay hydrated, stay in the shade, and keep your holler-heathen foolishness at a low simmer today. Happy Tuesday from BVFD—where it may say September, but outside still feels like someone left the oven door open. 🚒🔥🥵

The coffee’s strong, the biscuits are fluffy, and somebody’s already hollerin’ “WE LEAVE IN TEN MINUTES” at a house full of barefoot people. Bless this Appalachian mess. 😂

Sunday is supposed to be a day of rest, but some of y’all took that as permission to rest a ladder on two cinder blocks and let your cousin hold the bottom.

“Papaw’s done it that way for years.”
And Papaw is why Mamaw’s got that eye twitch. 🤦‍♀️

A little Sunday wisdom from your BVFD crew:

🍳 Keep an eye on dinner. You can’t smell the green beans burnin’ from three houses down while you’re “just talkin’ a minute.”
🚗 Buckle up and slow down. The last piece of fried chicken ain’t worth meeting us in a ditch.
🚲 Watch for kids and bicycles. Those little creek goblins can go from porch to pavement before you finish saying their middle name.
🚒 Keep the firehouse access clear. “I’ll only be a second” is plenty of time for us to get a call.

Check on your people. Take Mamaw a plate. Find the school shoes before bedtime, because Monday morning is already crouched behind the couch like a possum with a grudge. 🦝

Stay safe, Village. We love y’all, but we’d rather wave at you from the truck than hear your cousin explain how it happened. ❤️🚒

Saturday has entered the holler with sunshine, beautiful weather, and the unmistakable sound of Little League football in the distance. 🏈☀️

The coffee is strong, the concession stand is calling, and folks are hauling chairs, coolers, and half-awake young’uns to the field like it’s an Olympic event. Whether you’re cheering from the sidelines, tackling yard work, or just enjoying the pretty day—stay hydrated, buckle up, watch for motorcycles, and slow down around the ball fields.

BVFD is ready if the Saturday shenanigans get a little too feral. Enjoy this beautiful day, Holler Heathens! 🚒🖤❤️

🌫️ FOGGY FRIDAY HAS ENTERED THE HOLLER 🌫️

The mountains are playing hide-and-seek, visibility is somewhere between questionable and absolutely not, and Friday has already wandered in looking confused.

Slow down, turn those headlights on, leave some stopping distance, and don’t go flying through the fog like you’ve got a NASCAR contract waiting at the end of Route 60. 🚗💨

Tonight, grab your red, black, and silver and head to Oak Hill to support our Cabell Midland Knights as they kick off their first Friday Night Lights of the season! 🏈⚔️

Travel safely, cheer loudly, and let’s show Oak Hill how the Knights—and their whole holler—show up!

Good Thursday morning, Holler Heathens! 🦝

We’ve officially reached that part of the week where the coffee ain’t working, everybody’s patience is hanging on by a possum hair, and Friday is standing just over the ridge hollering, “Y’all come on!”

If you’re out taming the hayfield you call a yard today:

🌱 Check the yard for rocks, toys, sticks, and other flying-projectile material before mowing.
🌱 Wear sturdy shoes and keep kids and pets safely away.
🌱 Let the mower cool before adding fuel.
🌱 Never reach beneath a running mower—those blades do not care whose fingers they are.
🌱 Blow grass clippings back into your yard, not into the street. Wet clippings are slick as owl snot for motorcycles and bicycles.
🌱 Keep clippings out of storm drains and ditches so they don’t clog drainage and contribute to flooding.

Keep your britches pulled up, your caffeine close, and your foolishness to a manageable level. Wear your seatbelt, slow down, watch for school buses and emergency vehicles—and for the love of all things holy, don’t do anything that requires BVFD to come meet you professionally.

A foggy Wednesday has come rollin’ into the holler like it owns the place. 🌫️

Ball practice is in full swing, the young’uns are runnin’ bases, and the germs, viruses, snotty noses, and fevers are makin’ their way through town faster than gossip at the Dollar General. ⚾️🤧

Ease up on the gas, turn those headlights on, wash your hands, cover your cough, and if you’re runnin’ a fever—park your contagious carcass at the house. Nobody wants a side of plague with ball practice.

☀️ TUESDAY HAS ENTERED THE HOLLER WITH A SIDE OF SUNSHINE. ☀️

Well, look at that, Holler Heathens… the sky ain’t leaking, the sun has clocked in, and Tuesday is out here acting suspiciously respectable. 😂

Don’t get too comfortable. Around here, peace and quiet usually means something is fixin’ to happen. 👀

So while Mother Nature is behaving:
🔥 Keep the matches put up. Sunshine ain’t an invitation to set the hillside ablaze.
🚗 Buckle up and put the phone down.
🏍️ Watch twice for motorcycles.
🚒 And if you see the big red trucks coming, kindly scoot that buggy to the right.

Enjoy that sunshine, drink some water, mind your business—or somebody else’s if it’s interesting enough—and try not to create paperwork for us.

Well, Holler Heathens… we have officially reached that suspicious part of Monday where it ain’t early enough to go back to bed, it ain’t late enough to call it a day, and everybody’s already had enough. 😂

The coffee has been consumed.
The kids have been deposited at school.
Somebody somewhere has already said, “Per my last email…” with violence in their heart.
And your friendly neighborhood BVFD volunteers are out here trying to keep all four tires on the Monday struggle bus. 🚌💨

If you’re headed out:
🔥 Don’t drive like you’re qualifying at Bristol on Route 60.
🔥 Buckle up, yes, even if you’re “just runnin’ down the road.”
🔥 Give motorcycles some room.
🔥 Put the phone down. That Facebook argument will still be there when you park.
🔥 And if you see flashy lights, MOVE OVER AND SLOW DOWN. We are extremely fond of our toe beans and would like to keep all of them attached.

Otherwise, carry on with your regularly scheduled Appalachian nonsense.

We’ll be down here at the firehouse, minding our business, drinking questionable amounts of caffeine and waiting to see what kind of foolishness Monday drags out of the holler.

Happy Sunday, Holler Heathens! 🦝

Yesterday, while y’all were scattered across the holler attending ballgames, pulling w**ds, mowing yards, tending gardens, and arguing with that one w**d eater that only runs when it feels spiritually led… your BVFD crews were busy doing a little firehouse housekeeping. 👀

🧹 Cleaning
🧽 Scrubbing
📦 Moving stuff that apparently hasn’t moved since Moses came down the mountain
🔨 And getting the building prepped for a few updates headed our way.

Because apparently “volunteer fire department” also means firefighters, medics, janitors, movers, maintenance workers, decorators, and professional holders of the flashlight while somebody says, “Nah, scoot it a little more to the left.” 😂

We’re pretty excited about what’s happening around the firehouse, and we think y’all will be too.

So keep them eyeballs peeled. 👀
We’ll be sharing the progress as we go.

Until then, enjoy your Sunday in the Village. Tend your maters. Finish mowing that patch you conveniently “forgot.” Hydrate. Wear your seatbelt. And for the love of all things Appalachian, don’t burn the holler down.
