KNOX COUNTY KY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE
Monday, August 31, 2026.

Sheriff Mike Smith reports that Knox Central High School resource officers were made aware of an online threat and implemented additional safety protocols to determine the credibility of the action.

The school resource officers and our deputies worked in tandem on and off campus to investigate the threat.

After online forensic evidence was gathered, a 15-year-old juvenile female was arrested and booked into a juvenile facility in regard to the threats.

Sheriff Smith strongly encourages parents to talk to their children about the lasting consequences involved in making threats of this nature.

A SCHOOL SAFETY MESSAGE

A message from Sheriff Mike Smith regarding school child safety:
Knox County Schools and the Barbourville City School will be back in session soon. Back to school is always an exciting and busy time for children, Safety is not always on their minds. In order to ensure the safety of Knox County’s school children, motorists are reminded to drive with extra caution when entering school zones and when approaching a school bus either loading or unloading children. Motorists are further reminded to use caution in the area of schools even after the school day ends due to extracurricular activities and sporting events.

There are some safety tips that you as a motorist can practice that would help to make school children safer:

• Never pass a stopped school from behind or from any other direction.

• Stop far enough distance from a school bus to allow children to safely enter and exit the bus. It should be noted that the area 10 feet around a school bus is the most dangerous for children
• Be alert: children often are unpredictable.

• Take extra care to look out for children in school zones and near playgrounds,
• Observe the posted speed limits, especially in school zones.
• Be prepared for sudden stops
• Refrain from distracted driving such as texting and other cell phone usage.

KNOX COUNTY KY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
August 10 2026

On Sunday, August 9, 2026, at approximately 1:00 am Knox County Deputies responded to an assault complaint at a residence on Jeff’s Creek Road in Flatlick. The caller advised that, Boyd Mills had kicked in the door of his out building and threatened him. When the deputies arrived they observed another man sitting on the porch and was identified as Boyd Mills.

When the deputies arrested Boyd Mills age 45 of Flat Lick, KY for Criminal Mischief-2nd Degree and Terroristic Threatening-3rd Degree, two plastic bags of suspected methamphetamine and several syringes were found in his possession.

Boyd Mills was then charged with Possession of Controlled Substance-1st Degree and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

He was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.

Monday, August 10, 2026

On Friday, August 7, 2026, Knox County Deputies received information that fugitive Floyd House was working at a construction site on Higgins Branch Road in Corbin.

Floyd House was wanted in Elliott County on an Unlawful Transaction with a Minor charge and had been on the run since 2022.

Floyd House age 36 of Lily, KY was located and arrested on Higgins Branch Road without incident.

Floyd House was also wanted on a Clay County Bench Warrant for failure to pay the fine on an Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence on a 2021 charge and a Laurel County Bench Warrant for failure to appear on several 2019 traffic charges. He was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.

KNOX COUNTY KY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE

On Sunday, July 26, 2026, at approximately 11:50 pm Knox County Deputy Thomas Martin responded to a complaint of people cutting wire along KY 225 near the Warren Camp area. When Deputy Martin arrived, he saw three men run into the woods. Deputy Martin also observed a maroon Cadillac parked at the location with a large quantity of copper wire that belonged to Windstream hanging out of the trunk. Deputy Martin was able to apprehend one of the suspects hiding in the woods,

Jerry D Owens age 50 of Pineville, KY. was arrested and charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking or Disposition-over $10,000 and Criminal Mischeif-1st Degree. Jerry Owens was also wanted on
a Bell County Bench Warrant for failure to appear on Trafficking in Controlled Substance-1st Degree and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia charges. He was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.

The investigation is continuing by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. The other two suspects that ran into the woods have been identified and arrest warrants have been obtained.

On Thursday, July 23, 2026 Knox County Sheriff Mike Smith along with deputies responded to a report of copper wire belonging to Windstream being stolen in the Trosper area. While searching the vicinity, a large amount of cut wire was located hidden in the wood line near KY 225

During the investigation into the theft, a suspect was identified.

On Tuesday, July 28, 2026, Kyle Hammons age 35 of Scalf, KY was arrested and charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking or Disposition-over $10,000. The tools used to cut the wire was also found in his vehicle.

Kyle Hammons was also wanted on a Knox County Arrest Warrant for Theft by Unlawful Taking or Disposition-shoplifting. He was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.

KNOX COUNTY KY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE

On Monday, July 13, 2026, at 7:10 am Knox County Deputy Thomas Martin responded to a report of people in a dark colored Dodge Dart looking inside vehicles in Stephen Trace subdivision south of Barbourville.

As Deputy Martin was entering Stephen Trace, he met a dark blue Dodge Dart coming out of the area. Deputy Martin observed the vehicle turn onto KY 3439 and later turn onto Bradly Martin Lane. The deputy also observed the vehicle pull onto US-25E, turn into the Goodwill parking lot then pull back onto US-25E traveling in the wrong lane before finally stopping on US-25E.

A male suspect jumped out of the rear passenger seat of the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Deputy Martin was able to apprehend and arrest 19-year-old Christian Kanrom of Corbin, KY charging him with Fleeing or evading Police-1st Degree/on foot.

Deputy Martin also recovered the contents, including a firearm, stolen from two vehicles in Stephen Trace, Christian Kanrom was then charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking-firearm, two counts of Theft by Unlawful Taking or Disposition-others and Tampering with Physical Evidence.

The female driver, 18-year-old Kirsten Kidd of Williamsburg, KY was arrested on an additional charge of Fleeing or Evading Police-1st Degree/vehicle.

Christian Kamrom and Kirsten Kidd were lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.

KNOX COUNTY KY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE

On June 28, 2026 Knox County Deputy Thomas Martin responded to a burglary complaint at a residence on US 25E in Bimble, Ky. The perpetrator entered the residence by breaking through the back door of the residence. During Deputy Martin’s investigation a suspect was identified.

Dylan Brown age 34 of Scalf, KY was arrested and charged with Burglary-1st Degree, Criminal Mischief-2nd Degree, Possession of Handgun by Convicted Felon and Persistent Felony Offender II.

Dylan Brown was also wanted on a Knox County Arrest Warrant for Fraudulent Use of Credit Card –over $1,000.

Dylan Brown was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
