❄️ WINTER WEATHER ALERT ❄️
A winter storm is expected in Knox County this weekend with snow, ice, and dangerous cold temperatures. Please limit travel if possible, prepare your homes and vehicles, and check on neighbors who may need help.

1/8/2026. At approximately 9:48am Bailey Switch Fire dept was requested by East Knox Fire dept for tankers due to a scarp yard on fire two trucks an several units responded. Barbourville Fire Dept, Richland Fire Dept, Knox County Sheriff Dept, Knox county SORT, Knox County Emergency Management was also ok scene

1/8/2026 at approximately 2:26pm Bailey Switch Fire Dept was paged to a brush fire near structures on Bailey hollow rd, 3 trucks an several units responded, due to the size of fire Kentucky division of forestry was notified for there assistance an was later turned over to them

1/8/2026 at approximately 10:50pm Bailey Switch Fire Dept was paged to a brush fire on Arkle rd where our district meets up with West Knox fire rescue 3 trucks several units responded, West Knox requested us due to the size of fire an spreading into our district as well, Kentucky division of forestry was on scene an was turn over to them

It is with heavy hearts that we ask our community to keep the Owens family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time, as we mourn the passing of Todd Ownes. Todd served our department and community in many capacities. He previously served as a firefighter with Bailey Switch Fire Department, dedicated several years to Emergency Management, and most recently was serving on our board as Vice President. His commitment to public service, leadership, and the well-being of our community left a lasting impact that will not be forgotten.
Todd was more than a title or position, he was a friend, a teammate, and someone who truly cared about the people around him. His dedication and service will always be remembered.
Please join us in lifting up his family, friends, and loved ones in prayer as they navigate the days ahead.

At 6:04 AM on Saturday, November 8, 2025, the Bailey Switch Fire Department was requested to assist with a multi-vehicle crash incident on US 25E, caused by extremely poor visibility from heavy fog across the area.

Due to the severity of the fog and the safety of both the public and first responders, Bailey Switch Fire Department temporarily closed US 25E at RECC and the entrance of KY 1232 northbound. Other agencies also closed US 25E at the Corbin Bypass and nearby side roads to help prevent additional accidents while emergency crews worked the scene.

Three trucks and several firefighters from Bailey Switch Fire Department responded, working alongside multiple agencies under very dangerous visibility conditions. The roadway was reopened shortly after 8:00 AM once the area was deemed safe for travel.

Other agencies who responded and worked together under these tough conditions:
• Knox County Sheriff’s Office
• Barbourville Police Department
• Corbin Police Department
• Ambulance Incorporated of Laurel County
• Knox County Ambulance Service
• Whitley County EMS
• Corbin Fire Department
• West Knox Fire Department

A big thank you to the public for your patience and understanding during the closure. Safety will always come first for our community and for the men and women working these incidents.
