Today, we remember the men and women who gave everything in service to this country.
Their sacrifice gave the rest of us the freedom to live, work, raise families, and serve our communities.

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend.
It is a reminder that freedom has always come at a cost carried by someone else’s son, daughter, spouse, friend, or parent.

The members of the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office honor those who never made it home and stand beside the families who carry that absence every day.

May we never forget the fallen.
May we live in a way worthy of their sacrifice.

National Police Week 2026
Sunday, May 10, to Saturday, May 16, 2026

This week, we pause to honor the men and women behind the badge — those who are called to serve and protect, and most importantly, those who gave their lives while making the ultimate sacrifice for their communities.

We also take a moment to recognize not only the officers who serve, but the families and friends who stand beside them every day. Your support, sacrifice, and strength are a vital part of this profession and do not go unnoticed.

To all who wear the badge, and to those who support them through every challenge and uncertainty, we thank you for your dedication, courage, and commitment to others.

Today, we were honored to welcome members of Law Enforcement United, including Team Raleigh, Greenville, and Shelby, to the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office during their Road to Hope ride.
This journey is far bigger than miles on a highway or tires on pavement. The Road to Hope ride stands as a moving tribute to the law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, while also honoring the families, friends, and survivors who continue carrying that weight long after the sirens fade.
Seeing riders from across the state come together with one purpose — remembrance — is a powerful reminder that the badge is more than a profession. It is a brotherhood and sisterhood that does not forget its own.
We would also like to extend a sincere thank you to Pastor James Harrington and The Fellowship Baptist Church for their support, kindness, and generosity during today’s visit. Community support like this means more than words can properly express.
We are grateful for the opportunity to meet these dedicated riders, hear their stories, and stand beside them as they continue their journey. Thank you for carrying the memories of the fallen forward with every mile.
Please join us in wishing them safe travels as they continue the Road to Hope. 💙🖤

Press Release 4/22/2026

On Wednesday, April 22nd, 2026, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Agents followed a vehicle from Virginia, known to be occupied by a male with felony warrants, to the Fost neighborhood located in Moyock. At approximately 8:08 am, Currituck Communications was contacted by an ICE Agent stating that they were following a vehicle in our county and requested assistance from law enforcement. ICE agents conducted a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle. Currituck County Sheriff’s Office personnel arrived on scene, and the target, along with an additional occupant of the vehicle, were taken into custody. Information was provided that a third subject had jumped from that vehicle and ran from the scene. Currituck County Sheriff's Office personnel assisted ICE Agents and in a short time located the third subject taking him into custody without incident.

Due to the close proximity of the initial traffic stop to Moyock Middle School, the SRO and the school's administrative staff were made aware of the ongoing incident and additional deputies were placed in the area.
At no point was any information relayed to the sheriff's office in reference to the suspect having run in the direction of the school or that any threat of danger existed.

On April 12, 2026, a Deputy observed a vehicle, red Mustang, traveling northbound on Caratoke Highway 158 in the Jarvisburg area at approximately 100 mph. A witness later reported the vehicle was traveling as fast as 140 mph and nearly caused a serious collision. The driver's actions created an immediate and significant danger to the motoring public. The Deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop; however, the driver used the turn lane to evade, weaving in and out of traffic. A pursuit ensued.
The pursuit concluded in Grandy, where the driver, Kenneth Knoeber, 49, was taken into custody without incident. He was charged with the following,
-Felony flee to elude
-Careless and reckless driving
-Failure to heed
-Driving left of center

The vehicle was seized pursuant to North Carolina's "Run and Done" law and Knoeber was held at the detention center under secured bond.
