💥 Another first for Nelson County Dispatch 💥

Today, Director Shawn Gaither was the Keynote Speaker at the 2026 Directors Training Summit for IN911 Statewide 911 Board.

Although we couldn't be there to cheer him on in person, we know he smashed it and made Nelson County proud!

Congratulations Shawn! We are proud of you!

*Nelson County Dispatch Spotlight*

There are times when those who wear the headset happen to be out and have to be the on scene responder. On March 14, 2026 Assistant Director Shanna Brussell and Dispatcher Jessica Wells did just that. Driving down the road in Bloomfield, they spotted what appeared to be a glow coming from the side of a brick home.

Instincts told them to turn around to investigate further. Their quick actions, calm demeanors and professional skills; saved to lives of two young children. The home had a fire growing on the outside of the home. Without a doubt, the outcome could have been much different without their quick actions!

Today I presented both Shanna and Jess with the “Nelson County Dispatch Life Saver Award”. Thank you to both Shanna and Jess for their dedication to ensuring the continued safety to the Nelson County community!

We are so humbled and appreciative of the support from our emergency services department partners, vendors, and the community during National Public Safety Telecommunicator Week. We tried to snap as many pictures as possible but I know we missed a few but that doesn't mean we are anyless greatful.
Thank you Nelson County for making your dispatchers feel seen and appreciated.

We are extremely greatful for the positive outcome this morning as our 'boys in brown' apprehended Mr. Nation.

Multiple agencies were involved in making this happen, coordinated by your Nelson County Dispatchers. They went above and beyond their duties this morning for the safety of the this community, our LEO'S, and Mr. Nation.

We are thankful and well, words cannot describe the feeling, when a "mission" is completed and everyone is safe. We can breathe again.

*******
Nelson County Dispatch will not be making further comment on this incident.

Mr. Jerry Nation. is in custody.

Your Nelson County Dispatchers showed up and showed out during this 2026 Snow Apocalypse. They spent nights away from their families, risked their personal vehicles and their sanity.

While we are still in the middle of our free Alaskan trail run, our dispatchers have returned home, and a new crew has entered the play ground. Slippin and a sliding from point A to point B.

We are so thankful for the dedication of our dispatchers and the understanding of from their families.

We would like to extend a much appreciated thank you to our friends and fellow first responders at Nelson County Sheriff's Office, KY, Bardstown Police Department, and Nelson County KY Emergency Management as they helped transport some of your dispatchers from the radio to their destinations.

Continue to stay warm Nelson County!
