🩺 Real Patients. Real Scenarios. Real-World CCMA Skills.
Today, our CCMA students took their Patient Interview skills to the next level with LIVE patient volunteers! 👏
Some patients were friendly and easy to interview. Others were a little more challenging… and a few truly made our students work for it! 😂
Our amazing patient volunteers came prepared, creating detailed backstories and alternate personas for their roles in today’s skill check-off. This gave our students a first-hand opportunity to practice the skills they’ll need every day in the healthcare setting, including:
🗣️ Conducting effective patient interviews
🧘♀️ De-escalating challenging patient interactions
🧠 Communicating with patients experiencing mental health challenges
👀 Maintaining professional facial expressions and body language
🤝 Practicing empathy, professionalism, and nonjudgmental communication
🔐 Learning how to respond appropriately when patients share deeply personal or unexpected information
And yes… some of those stories definitely tested our students’ ability to keep a straight face! 😳😂
These experiences are about so much more than checking off a skill. They’re about preparing our future medical assistants for the real people, real emotions, and real-life situations they will encounter in healthcare.
We are so proud of the way our students stepped outside their comfort zones, adapted to each unique patient, and continued to demonstrate professionalism throughout the experience!
Great job, future CCMAs! You’re learning that sometimes the most valuable clinical lessons happen when things don’t go exactly as planned. ❤️🩺
Also, a HUGE THANK YOU to our volunteer patients from Nelson County Schools & CommonSpirit Bardstown!
