Bardstown Middle School Youth Service Center partnered with the Nelson County Extension Office to host a Reality Fair for eighth grade students on Wednesday, May 6. Students practiced real– life budgeting skills by choosing an occupation and managing expenses, such as housing, transportation, groceries, childcare, and insurance.
A special thanks to Samantha Gabbard, Nelson County 4H Youth Development Agent, Mrs. Vondra Payne, BMS Guidance Counselor, Community Partners, and Chef Whitsell, along with his culinary students, for helping make this meaningful experience possible for our students.

🦸‍♀️🦷 Healthy Superheroes in Action! 🦷🦸‍♂️

As part of Bardstown Primary School’s Healthy Superheroes program, we were excited to welcome Summer Long and her special friend, Spotasauraus, from Mattingly & Howell Orthodontics, PSC to Bardstown Primary!

Our kindergarten students had a blast learning all about dental health through fun, hands-on activities. They played games to practice proper brushing and flossing techniques—and even got the chance to brush Spotasauraus’s teeth! 🪥🦖

We’re proud to say every student passed the test and earned their very own toothbrush kit, complete with a new toothbrush, toothpaste, and a timer! Students learned the importance of brushing their teeth twice a day for two minutes each time—a habit that helps keep those superhero smiles shining bright! 😁✨

A big THANK YOU to Summer for spending the past two days pouring into our students, and to Mattingly & Howell for generously providing the dental kits. We appreciate your support in helping our students stay healthy and strong!

BPS FRYSC and our Kindergarten Healthy Superheroes were thrilled to welcome back Mrs. Malena Alexander from the Nelson County Extension Office for another exciting adventure—this time tackling those icky, yucky germs!

Our superheroes transformed into scientists and detectives as they conducted a hands-on experiment showing just how powerful soap is—and how germs don’t stand a chance against it!

The fun didn’t stop there! Using a special black light, our little detectives searched high and low to uncover hidden germs all around their classroom and all over their hands. They were amazed at what they found—and even more excited to jump into action, cleaning up those sneaky germs from their room and their hands!

It was a fun time learning, laughter, and super-powered germ fighting!

BEC & BPS FRYSC teamed up with our amazing kindergarten teachers to bring the Norton Children’s Hospital Healthy Superhero Program to life! 🦸‍♂️🦸‍♀️

Our kindergarten superheroes have been training for the last few weeks to keep their bodies strong and powerful. They’ve been learning the secret powers of eating fruits and vegetables, drinking plenty of water, staying active every day, getting good sleep, and limiting screen time. Every healthy choice helps them build their superhero strength! 💪

This week we added an extra mission by partnering with the Nelson County Extension Office to create some superhero-approved snacks. Students got to try Spider-Man Spidey Bites and Thor’s Hammer, and they even tasted sunbutter made from sunflower seeds—a brand new super snack for many of our little heroes!

The verdict? 🕷️⚡
Our kindergarten superheroes gave these superpower snacks two thumbs up! It was a fun (and tasty) way to learn that healthy foods can help fuel our bodies for all the adventures ahead.

Way to go, superheroes! 🦸‍♀️🍎🦸‍♂️

Stay tuned as our superheroes learn more ways to stay healthy and safe and earn their superhero capes!
