Lane & Width Restriction on U.S. 51 in Carlisle Co., Between Arlington and Bardwell, To Start May 11
Bridge replacement estimated completion by end of year
PADUCAH, Ky. (May 5, 2026) – A long-term lane restriction is scheduled to start Monday, May 11 on U.S. 51 at mile point 4.4 in Carlisle County, as a contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) begins work on a bridge replacement project.
A 10.5-foot lane width restriction will also be in effect for the duration of the project.
The bridge over Little Mayfield Creek, located on U.S. 51 between Arlington and Bardwell, will be replaced in two phases.
At the start of the project, crews will install temporary railing and barrier wall, along with a temporary traffic signal to control alternating one-lane traffic. Demolition and construction for Phase 1 will follow.
Jim Smith Contracting is serving as the prime contractor for the project, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year, weather permitting.
Motorists are urged to use caution in the work zone.
