NIGHTTIME SAFETY REMINDER

Criminals love unlocked vehicles.

With the recent string of vehicle thefts in the area, we’re asking our Barling residents to take a few extra minutes tonight to protect your vehicles and property.

LOCK your vehicles.
Take your keys and key fobs inside.
Remove valuables from your vehicle.
Turn on your exterior lights.
MAKE SURE YOUR SECURITY CAMERAS ARE RECORDING!

And yes… please check those cameras!

If someone walks through your yard, tries to enter your vehicle, or unfortunately succeeds in stealing something, recorded video can give us something to work with. Time stamps, clothing, faces, vehicles, direction of travel, and other details can be extremely valuable to investigators.

Bonus tip: Make sure you know how to save and send your camera footage BEFORE you need it.

If you see something suspicious around your home or neighborhood please report it.

Let’s look out for one another.

LOCK IT.
LIGHT IT.
RECORD IT.
REPORT IT.
Working together to keep Barling safe.

We encourage everyone to be vigilant after taking reports of property being stolen from unlocked vehicles over the past couple of nights.

Lavaca has also experienced similar incidents, vehicle entries and two stolen vehicles.
We encourage everyone to take the following precautions to help protect your vehicle and personal property:

* Always lock your vehicle.

* Remove all valuables.

* Take your keys/key fobs with you. Never leave them inside your vehicle.

* Remove garage door remotes. If a thief has your garage door opener, they have access to your home.

* Report any suspicious activity immediately by calling 911 in an emergency or 479-783-1051 for non-emergency.

These crimes are often crimes of opportunity, and a few simple precautions can significantly reduce your chances of becoming a victim.

We appreciate the public's assistance and encourage everyone to help keep our community safe by remaining alert and looking out for one another.
