HHB is proud to recognize and honor these outstanding Soldiers for their dedication and professionalism in earning the Joint Service Achievement Award.
While conducting patrol operations in Washington, D.C., Soldiers assigned to the 142nd demonstrated exceptional professionalism and decisive action when they encountered a civilian involved in a motor vehicle versus pedestrian accident. Without hesitation, the Soldiers immediately rendered aid to the injured woman and initiated emergency response procedures.
1LT Chapman was the first to assess the woman, while SPC Palafox called 911 and SFC Haney contacted the QRF to request a medic’s assistance. The three rendered aid to the patient until the medic, SPC Pena, arrived on scene. Upon arrival, SPC Pena completed a thorough trauma assessment and worked diligently to control the bleeding and stabilize the patient. Due to the rapid response, teamwork, and medical proficiency displayed by all personnel involved, the patient was stabilized prior to the arrival of civilian EMS and successfully transported to local medical care. Additional assistance during the incident was provided by SGT Crumby, SGT Vaughan, and the entire QRF team. At the time of this report, the patient is in stable condition.
The Soldiers’ actions directly contributed to the preservation of life and reflect great credit upon themselves, the 142nd, and the United States Army.
