Yesterday afternoon at approximately 1135 hours, Station 49 was dispatched to channel marker 55 in the Barnegat Bay, adjacent to Sunset Park in Harvey Cedars, for a report of a jet-ski accident with injuries.

Water Rescue Truck 4906 and Jet Ski 4916 responded along with additional apparatus from Station 51, 13, Squad 12, HCBP, NJSP Marine Unit.

4906 arrived first due & under the command of Chief 5100 launched Jet Ski 4916 with 2 rescue swimmers, one of whom is an EMT.

The victim was secured on the rescue sled of Jet Ski 4916, where the rescue crew took C-Spine precautions, and then transported back to shore where care was transferred to awaiting EMTs from Squad 12.

Stay Sharp on the Water

The New Jersey State Police Marine Services Bureau reminds all boaters that safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Boating under the influence (BUI) puts lives at risk. Alcohol slows reaction time, impairs judgment, and increases the likelihood of serious incidents. Always designate a sober operator before heading out.

Speed matters- excessive speed and careless wakes can damage property, capsize smaller vessels, and injure others. Follow posted limits, slow down in crowded or narrow areas, and remain mindful of your wake.

Nighttime operations require extra caution. Reduced visibility and increased difficulty judging distance and speed make hazards harder to detect. Always maintain a safe speed, use proper navigation lights, and stay alert to surrounding traffic and debris to avoid potential dangers.

Life jackets save lives. Wear a properly fitted personal flotation device every time you’re on the water. Most boating fatalities involve individuals who were not wearing one.

Pay attention. Distracted boating is dangerous. Keep your eyes on the water, scan for hazards, avoid distractions like phones while operating, and always have a dedicated lookout.

What a great drill. Our EMT’s, drivers, and line officers learned so much, got to practice vital skills, and worked with many great local organization. Thank you to Deputy Coordinator Mike Wolfschmidt and our very own 2nd Sgt, Bobby Selfridge, for putting together a tremendous mock mass casualty training. Thank you to all organizations we worked hand in hand with, it’s always a pleasure to work with you.

3 medevacs yesterday. The first was late afternoon which was an E-bike vs car. The next two were in the evening, which was a medical event caused motor vehicle accident. Please remain alert, be careful, and stay safe. Accidents happen, please refrain from judgement and say a prayer/wishful thought for those involved.

Thank you to all our mutual aid agencies involved in both incidents, from Hackensack Paramedics, LBT and HC PD, Surf City Fire/EMS, Ship Bottom Fire, Harvey Cedars Fire, and towing services.

Thank you to our flight medics/crew from RWJ and NJ State Police. We cannot say enough wonderful things about the men and women who perform extraordinary life saving measures in the sky.
