The Barnegat Township Police Department is proud to recognize five of our dedicated Crossing Guards for reaching an incredible milestone — more than 20 years of service to the Barnegat Township community!

Power has been restored to the traffic light at Route 9/Bay Avenue and the surrounding area. Officers have opened the intersection to traffic.

The traffic lights at Georgetown/Route 9 and Gunning River Road/Route 9 are now operational. The light at Bay Avenue/Route 9 is still out and traffic is being diverted around the intersection. Please avoid the area if possible. Power crews are on scene replacing a telephone pole and estimated restoration of power to the traffic light and immediate area is within 5 hours.

The traffic lights at Route 9/Bay Ave, Route 9/Gunning River Road and Route 9 and Georgetown Blvd. are out due to a motor vehicle accident that occured on Route 9 just south of Bay Avenue. Power crews are working on restoration and emergency personnel are on scene directing traffic. Please avoid the area if possible.

COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE REQUESTED – PEBBLE BEACH AREA

The Barnegat Township Police Department is asking residents in the Pebble Beach area to review any home surveillance or doorbell camera footage from 7:00 PM on August 8, 2026, through 6:00 AM on August 9, 2026.

Our department is currently investigating multiple reports of vehicle tires being intentionally slashed in the area during this timeframe.

Residents are asked to check their cameras for any suspicious persons, vehicles, or activity that may assist with the investigation. If you locate anything you believe may be relevant, please contact Det. Bloodgood at [email protected]

Today, the Barnegat Township Police Department had the privilege of continuing one of our favorite annual traditions by joining the Barnegat High School Football Team for a preseason workout.

Each year, before the football season kicks off, our PT Officers lace up alongside the players, pushing through the same workout while emphasizing the importance of discipline, teamwork, resilience, and mental toughness. Following the workout, our officers had the opportunity to speak with the team about leadership, accountability, and the commitment it takes to succeed both on and off the field.

A special thank you to Detective Sergeant Carlo, Patrolman Negron, Patrolman Calicchio, and Patrolman Amirr for representing the Barnegat Township Police Department and dedicating their time to invest in the next generation of student-athletes.

We’re grateful to the coaches and players for welcoming us back each year and allowing us to be a small part of their journey. We wish the Bengals a healthy and successful season.

The Barnegat Township Police Department Family Night Out is less than two weeks away!

Please join the Barnegat Township Police Department on Tuesday, August 11th, from 6:00pm-8:00pm at the Barnegat Township High School (180 Bengal Blvd, Barnegat NJ) for our annual Family Night Out!

This event will feature:

We want to make our residents aware of a scam that has recently increased in our area.

Scammers are calling people and claiming they have missed jury duty or that there is a warrant out for their arrest. They then pressure victims to pay money immediately to avoid being arrested, often requesting payment through gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire transfers, or other unusual payment methods.

Please remember:
✅ Legitimate law enforcement agencies and courts will not call and demand immediate payment to avoid arrest.
✅ They will never ask you to pay with gift cards, cryptocurrency, or other unconventional payment methods.
✅ If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately. Do not provide personal or financial information.

If you're unsure whether a call is legitimate, contact your local court or law enforcement agency using a phone number you know is official—not one provided by the caller.

Please help protect your family, friends, and neighbors by sharing this information. Staying informed is one of the best ways to prevent fraud.

Please join us in congratulating three outstanding members of the Barnegat Township Police Department on their well-deserved promotions!

Lieutenant Vincent Damiano has been promoted from Detective Bureau Sergeant to Patrol Lieutenant. Since joining the department in 2008, Lt. Damiano has proudly served our community in several roles, including Patrol Officer, Detective, Juvenile Liaison Officer, and Field Training Officer. His experience, leadership, and dedication to mentoring others have made a lasting impact on our department, and we are excited to see him lead our patrol division.

Sergeant Greg Martinez has been promoted from Narcotics Detective to Patrol Sergeant. Hired in 2006, Sgt. Martinez has spent the majority of his career assigned to the Crime Reduction Unit since 2011. Throughout his tenure, he has participated in hundreds of search warrants and complex investigations. His commitment to public safety has earned him numerous accolades, including Officer of the Year and recognition from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). We look forward to his continued leadership in patrol.

Sergeant Julie Moore has been promoted from Patrol Officer to Patrol Sergeant. Since joining the department in 2004, Sgt. Moore has served in several specialized assignments, including Traffic Safety Officer, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Humane Law Enforcement Officer (HLEO), and as a member of the Fatal Accident Investigation Team. Her professionalism, compassion, knowledge, and dedication to serving the community have made her an invaluable member of our department.

These promotions reflect the hard work, integrity, and commitment that Lt. Damiano, Sgt. Martinez, and Sgt. Moore have demonstrated throughout their careers. We are proud of their accomplishments and confident they will continue to serve the residents of Barnegat Township with distinction in their new leadership roles.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Mayor P**i and the entire Township Committee for their continued support of the Barnegat Township Police Department and for recognizing the importance of investing in the leadership of our agency.

Congratulations to Lieutenant Damiano, Sergeant Martinez, and Sergeant Moore on this exciting milestone. We wish you continued success in your new roles!
