🚨☀️ MISSING PERSON (Sun actually) REPORT ☀️🚨

Lamar County Fire Rescue has received multiple reports regarding a missing celestial body known only as "The Sun."

The Sun was last seen several days ago before disappearing under suspicious circumstances involving approximately 14,000 gallons of rain, a few thunderstorms, and what can only be described as an identity crisis from Mother Nature.

BOLOs have been issued across the county.

👀 Recent sightings have been reported, and witnesses claim The Sun may make a brief appearance this afternoon before disappearing again for questioning by a few lingering showers and storms.

The good news? Investigators are optimistic that The Sun may finally return home sometime during the middle of next week and remain in the area for an extended visit.

In the meantime:

🛶 You can probably leave the canoe at home.
🚣‍♂️ But we'd recommend keeping the kayak nearby just in case.
🚗 Slow down on wet roadways.
⚡ If thunder roars, head indoors.
🐾 Keep an eye on your furry family members during storms.
👵 Check on elderly neighbors and medically fragile friends and family.

If you spot The Sun, please do not approach suddenly. Many residents have not seen it in so long they may become startled or confused.

Stay safe, Lamar County. We are hopeful this missing person case will soon be closed. ☀️😎

🚒🚑 Do y’all remember the movie Groundhog Day? Because that’s exactly what this weather forecast is starting to feel like lately. 🌧️⛈️🌤️

Today’s weather awareness report: sunshine, storms, random popup rain showers, humidity, and a daily guessing game of what mood Mother Nature woke up in.

Please continue slowing down on wet roads, watch for standing water, and stay weather aware this afternoon and evening.

🐾Also be mindful of our furry friends during this heat and humidity mix. Make sure pets have access to shade, fresh water, and don’t leave them outdoors longer than necessary during storms or extreme heat. 🐾

❤️❤️❤️And as always, check on the elderly, medically fragile, and neighbors who may need a little extra help during prolonged heat, storms, or power outages. A quick phone call or visit can go a long way. ❤️❤️❤️

At this point, we recommend carrying sunglasses, an umbrella, water wings, perhaps a pool noodle..... and maybe a canoe or fishing boat….... just pack one of each in your vehicle to cover all possibilities. ☔🛶🚤😅

🌧️⛈️ Remember that one time we were all begging for rain? Well… apparently Mother Nature took that personally. 🌧️⛈️

Expect more rain and storms this afternoon, and if the forecast behaves itself, maybe we’ll finally get the break we’ve been promised around Tuesday or Wednesday next week. Until then, watch the roads, slow down during heavy rain, and please don’t test flooded roadways to a who's who of skiing.

🚒 🚒 While we have your attention, we’d also like to gently address something important.🚒 🚒

We know the public is naturally curious when emergency vehicles are on scene, and we truly appreciate a community that cares. However, when crews are actively working an emergency, our focus must remain on the patient, scene safety, and the task at hand — not providing play-by-play updates or answering “oh my gosh, what happened?” questions from bystanders.

If you see emergency crews operating:
🚒 Please give responders room to work
🚑 Avoid gathering around scenes
🚓 Respect requests to step back or clear the area
📸 Please remember patients and families deserve dignity and privacy during difficult moments

Sometimes when crews ask why you’re nearby or ask you to move along, it’s not meant to be rude. We genuinely do not know if you’re involved, need assistance, witnessed something important, or could potentially become another patient yourself. Scene safety and accountability matter.

And if you’re just being a little nosey… well… we say this with love: it’s probably time to mosey along. We promise — if we need information from you, we will absolutely ask.

As always, we appreciate the support this community shows our crews every single day. Stay weather aware, stay kind, and stay safe, Lamar County. ❤️

🚒 MARK YOUR CALENDARS! 🚒

Lamar County Fire Rescue will be participating in the 4th Annual Senior Health & Fitness Day on Wednesday, May 27 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 Noon at the LC Recreation Department Parking Area, 118 Academy Dr, Barnesville!

Come see us for information on:
✅ Fall Prevention
✅ Medication Safety
✅ Cord & Power Strip Safety
✅ Fire & EMS Safety
✅ And more!

Bring your questions! Our Deputy Chief of EMS & Administration — experienced in both Prehospital and Hospital based Emergency Medicine as a Paramedic and Registered Nurse (for a REALLY long time… though she refuses to provide exact numbers 😅) — will be on site to answer questions and provide safety information for seniors and caregivers alike.

AND…

✨ Meet the one behind the witty Facebook posts that so many swear are “clearly AI generated.” ✨

While she may occasionally use AI to help make graphics prettier and proofread her work because this amount of wit sometimes requires supervision… we can assure you this level of sarcasm, caffeine-fueled commentary, and questionable humor is 100% au naturale.

We’re excited to spend the morning with our community and help keep Lamar County safe, strong, and independent. ❤️

🚨 LOOK SUG 🚨

Memorial Day weekend is rolling in and so are some very real chances of thunderstorms ⛈️⚡

So before y’all decide to challenge Mother Nature to a cage match… let’s review a few things:

⚡ If you hear thunder — GET OUT OF THE WATER.
⚡ Lightning and swimming pools/lakes do NOT mix.
⚡ “Fool around and find out” is not a recommended safety plan.
⚡ Grills should be HOT… not extension cords, power strips, or Uncle Snookums after his third patriotic beverage. 🍔🌭

We want y’all to enjoy the weekend, soak up the family time, make memories, and stay safe doing it.

🇺🇸 May your grills stay hot, your lemonade stay cold, your burgers stay medium rare, and your weather apps stay boring.

Most importantly — take a moment this weekend to remember the men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to this great country. Memorial Day is more than a long weekend — it’s a time to honor those who gave everything so we could enjoy moments like these with the people we love. ❤️🤍💙

From all of us at Lamar County Fire Rescue:
Have fun. Watch the weather. Love your people. Stay safe, shug. 🚒
