Is the following statement TRUE or FALSE? We don't have to protect ourselves or our pets from ticks after the first fall frost, because they can't survive the cold weather.

FALSE. Because of Cape Cod's relatively mild winters, ticks are a concern YEAR-ROUND. Protect yourselves and your pets!

Ticks are year-round residents here on Cape Cod! Yes, they are alive and hungry during these chilly fall days. It's important to protect yourself while doing fall cleanup in the yard or enjoying the foliage during a walk through the woods. Find out what our Extension Entomologist, Larry "The Tick Guy" Dapsis has to say about fall tick bite prevention and tick testing at our blog here https://loom.ly/_WqiRoA

We've come a long way in our understanding of how respiratory viruses are spread since the early days of COVID-19. We now know that masks and ventilation in buildings can significantly reduce disease transmission.

'Tis the season for respiratory illness! But there's GOOD news: we have a lot of tools and information to help us stay healthy, for instance:

➡️For the first time ever, immunizations are available for all three major fall and winter respiratory diseases – flu, COVID-19, and RSV.
➡️There are widely available, effective treatments for flu and COVID-19 and that can reduce severe illness, hospitalization, and death.
➡️We have home tests that can quickly detect these respiratory viruses so patients don’t delay treatment and other actions that can protect their family, friends, and coworkers.
➡️We have better knowledge of when to use common-sense measures like masking, physical distancing, washing hands, and improving airflow in the places where people live and work.

While smoking (luckily) has been on the decline since the MA To***co Cessation and Prevention Program was established over 20 years ago, to***co companies have shifted focus to something more discreet, versatile, and equally addictive: e-ci******es and v**e products. They deliver sweet flavors, they're relatively cheap, and easy to obtain.

The Cape Cod To***co Control Program has shifted its focus to fit the transitioning climate of smoking, va**ng, and other forms of to***co/ni****ne use. Annually, they visit every local merchant that sells to***co and ni****ne products, performing compliance checks and follow up inspections - up to 500 every year across Cape Cod, the Islands, Plymouth and Wareham.

Barnstable County will observe Indigenous People’s Day on Monday, October 9, 2023. All County offices will be closed.

We invite you to join Barnstable County in celebrating the heritage and resilience of Indigenous communities across North America. In particular, we extend our recognition and pay tribute to the Wampanoag Tribe, the indigenous people who have called this land home for more than 12,000 years. Their enduring presence is a testament to their resilience, wisdom, and cultural richness. As we observe this day, take a moment to reflect on their profound influence on our history and their ongoing contributions to our society.

While we celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day and honor the Wampanoag Tribe, this day provides an opportunity to respect diverse perspectives and experiences. 🤝

While rabies is a 100% preventable disease, nearly 60,000 people die from the disease around the world each year (many of them children). Today, on World Rabies Day, we can renew our commitment to eliminate human rabies deaths in people.

Here on Cape Cod, the Cape Cod & Southeast Massachusetts Rabies Task Force continues to assist towns with maintaining control of terrestrial raccoon rabies through the Cape Cod Oral Rabies Vaccine (ORV) Program. The program is praised as one of the longest running, increasingly successful projects to control rabies in the country!
