With the latest predictions regarding the enhanced severe weather conditions on Monday, and the safety of our employees we have made a decision to close City Hall operations on Monday. As with previous City Hall closures, emergency services will be operating as scheduled and water and sewer emergencies would need to be reported to Barnwell County Dispatch at (803) 541-1080. Good Ole Boys Garbage Services will continue to operate a normal schedule on Monday so if your pickup day is Monday remember to place your cart out this evening. We ask everyone to secure loose items in your yard, have a plan to take shelter should conditions warrant, and check on your family and neighbors prior to the arrival of severe weather. Council returned from Executive Session and a motion was made by Councilman Dixon to accept the recommendation of the Special Committee and Personnel Committee to offer the position of City Administrator to candidate (A). A vote was taken and Councilpersons Dixon, Claytor, Kinlaw and Mayor Still, voted in the affirmative and Councilpersons Davis and Myers voted no. The motion carried on a vote of 4 for and 2 against. Councilperson Dixon made a motion to adjourn and was seconded by Councilperson Davis. All were in favor and the meeting was adjourned.

The City of Barnwell government offices will be closed on Monday February 16, 2026 in celebration of the Presidents Day Holiday. Emergency services will operate as normal but administrative offices will close. Good Ole Boys Garbage Service will operate a normal schedule next week. If your pick up day is Monday please remember to place your cart out on Sunday evening. Water and sewer emergencies can be reported to Barnwell County Dispatch at (803) 541-1080 during the holiday. We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend.

City government operations will delay opening until 11:00 Monday morning. As we know at this time Good Ole Boys Garbage will run a regular route on Monday but could be delayed so please place your cart out this evening if your pick up day is Monday. Thank you.

We continue to watch the updates on the winter weather expected this weekend. Currently the Good Ole Boys Garbage Pick Up will remain on schedule for Monday but could be delayed for later in the day. City Hall will expect to open at regular time on Monday but may have a delay in opening based on the road conditions on Monday morning. We will evaluate early on Monday and advise if a delay in opening will occur. Water and Sewer emergencies can be reported to Barnwell County Dispatch (803) 541-1080 during the weekend and anytime City Hall is closed. Emergency Services Police and Fire are prepared and staffed through the weekend to address needs as they happen related to the winter storm. Stay safe, keep off the roads if at all possible until conditions improve for safe driving and enjoy the snow.

OPERATIONS UPDATE
In an abundance of caution The City of Barnwell will close administrative offices (City Hall, Water & Sewer, Police, and Fire) tomorrow. With the latest information from the National Weather Service, Barnwell County Emergency Management, and the County Government decision to close we want to take this action for the safety of our staff and citizens as the risk of icing conditions continue into the day on Monday. As we know at this point Good Ole' Boys Garbage Service will be operating tomarrow but at what times we are not sure, so please roll your cart to the street if your pick up day is Monday. Stay Safe, and Stay Warm.

Upon returning from Executive Session of the January 22, 2026, Special Called Meeting Councilman Claytor made the motion to authorize the administration to enter into a contract for the purchase of real property and have the mayor sign as buyer on behalf of the City. The motion was seconded by Councilwoman Myers and the vote to approve was unanimous. With no other business before the Council a motion was made to adjourn and approved.

Information on the potential purchase will be made public when the seller acknowledges by signing their part of the contract and the sale is finalized.

The City of Barnwell is in close communication with Barnwell County Emergency Management regarding the pending winter weather activity for this weekend. As the forecast for our area continues to vary concerning the potential impacts to roads, and utilities, with possible icing conditions we want to share the following. Continue to follow trusted media and weather forecast outlets for the latest in preparation, and conditions expected for the weekend. Those using portable generators use caution with regards to (CO) Carbon Monoxide Poisoning from exhaust fumes entering your home. Keep the generator outside and at a safe distance away from your home and make every effort to have the exhaust fumes travel away from any doors, or windows Have a CO Detector in your home as a safety measure when using portable generators. Use of candles or flame operated lanterns are a fire risk and use with caution. As for City Services, Good Ole Boys Garbage pick up will continue to run their regular schedule on Monday conditions permitting. If the cart is not picked up at the normal time continue to leave it out until it is picked up which may be delayed due to road conditions. As for City Hall we will monitor the road conditions on Monday morning and if or when it is safe for travel our staff will report in and open for operations. As for reporting Water and Sewer emergencies use the Barnwell County Dispatch number (803) 541-1080 during the weekend and on Monday if City Hall Offices are still closed. Fire and Police will fully staffed for emergencies throughout the weather event. The City of Barnwell City Hall, Police, Fire, Recreation, and Water & Sewer Administrative Offices will be closed Monday, January 19, 2026 in honor of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Emergency services will operate a normal schedule as will Good Ole Boys Garbage Service. Again garbage service will run a regular schedule next week. Water and Sewer emergencies during the holiday can be reported to Barnwell County Dispatch at (803) 541-1080.

At tonight's Council Meeting Council voted to go into executive session for the purposes of pre-contractual negotiations for the purchase of real property. At the end of Executive Session Council resumed open session and received a motion from Council Person Myers to make an offer at the recommendation of the City Administrator for the purchase of property on Lee Street. The motion was seconded by Councilman Claytor. The motion carried unanimously. Hearing no additional business for Council a motion to Adjourn was made by Councilman Dixon, seconded by Councilman Claytor. The motion carried unanimously. Meeting adjourned.
