Throughout the month of April, the Barre Police Department will be conducting extra patrols as part of the statewide Distracted Driving Enforcement Campaign. The Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s Office of Grants (OGR) and Research awarded the Barre Police Department this grant to increase patrols and remind drivers of the dangers of Distracted Driving. OGR is the State Administering Agency for traffic safety grants provided by NHTSA Campaign.

We are excited to announce the creation of a Police K9 Comfort Dog program! This program is funded, in part, by a generous grant from Joseph D. Early Jr., Worcester County District Attorney's Office. Thank you to Belhaven Labradors for helping us select a puppy! Sgt Davidson will be the handler. The purpose of this K9 is to provide emotional support, reduce anxiety, and aid victims of traumatic events. This certified dog will improve community relations, assist in schools, and support officer wellness by offering a calming presence during high-stress situations, such as crises or incident response.

He will be out and about the community, but won't earn his badge until he completes all of his required training. We expect him to be fully certified and have his badge by December 2026.

Our K9 needs a name! We will be working with Quabbin Regional School District, Stetson School, and the public to help us pick an appropriate name, stay tuned for a list of names to pick from.

This K9 is part of a regional response team managed by the Joseph D. Early Jr., Worcester County District Attorney's Office please see below for more resources available.

-Please be advised that this morning the Barre Police Department executed a search warrant at 39 North Brookfield Rd, South Barre. The Barre Detective and officers had been performing surveillance on the address and subject for some time. Nicholas Laraia was placed in custody and is facing multiple charges, including but not limited to:

-Trafficking Crack Co***ne
-Possession with intent to distribute: Fentanyl
-Possession with intent to distribute: Psilocybin Mushrooms
-Possession with intent to distribute: Xanax
-Possession of Class C: Lorazepam
-Possession of Class E: Clonidine
-Possession of Class E: Gabapentin

This is the culmination of hard work behind the scenes by officers to make our streets safer.

We are hosting a Civilian AHA Basic CPR Class! Taught by our resident AHA instructor Officer Dylan Forss!

When: Saturday, April 4th, 10am-2pm

Where: BPD HQ, 655 South St, Barre, MA

Cost: $20 (covers AHA Card and paperwork)

Ages: All ages are welcome

This class is limited to (15) people, but we will have a waiting/cancellation list and will be hosting more classes in the near future.

There is currently a water main break in the area of 375 Wheelwright Rd. Water will be shut off from South Street to the town line on Wheelwright Rd. Please be advised that Joseph D. Early Jr., Worcester County District Attorney's Office has put out a statement regarding scam phone calls using Worcester County Sheriff's Office.

"We have received reports of scammers using the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office name and phone number to contact residents. In these calls, individuals claim to be Sheriff’s Office employees and reference an arrest warrant, missed jury duty, or other legal issues involving you or a loved one. The callers then request immediate payment to avoid arrest.”

Please keep in mind that law enforcement agencies will never demand payment, fines, or personal financial information over the phone. These scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated (using AI to simulate loved ones' voices), and we urge everyone to be vigilant.

❄️Warming Center Info❄️

With the impending storm and cold temperatures this weekend and early next week, our training room, located off the lobby at our headquarters (655 South St), will be open as a warming center. It will be accessible 24/7 from noon on Sunday until 10PM Monday. If you find yourself in a cold emergency and unable to travel, please call the PD business line: (508) 886-4033.
