Good Samaritan Haven

Good Samaritan Haven We provide support from homeless to housed. The organization operates four facilities with seventy-seven shelter beds.

Good Samaritan Haven is Washington County's only homeless shelter, providing housing and services for people experiencing homelessness in our community. The Emergency Shelter Program provides basic needs such as food, clothing, toiletries, and laundry for all guests free of charge through generous community donations. A wide range of case management services are also provided to help guests gain e

mployment, apply for benefits, engage in treatment, and find stable housing. The shelter offers supportive services for all guests including housing and employment assistance, case management and referral services, assistance obtaining mainstream benefits, financial support to lease or maintain a unit, and essential goods support. Good Samaritan Haven’s PATH (Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness) Program provides services to those experiencing homelessness with serious mental illness and/or a co-occurring substance use disorder.

Our Spring Appeal is underway! Hopefully by now you've received our request for support in your mailbox, or inbox.

In 2026, we are celebrating 40 years of offering emergency shelter, basic necessities, and human kindness to our fellow community members in need.

We decided to be a little more creative with our appeal "letter" this year and use artistic expression to share what it must feel like for a guest to have only two storage bins to keep all of their personal belongings.

The poem "Two Totes," written by Executive Director Julie Bond, highlights the emotional impact of loss and displacement and reminds us that a person is carrying more than their few possessions, they are also carrying their memories, grief, dreams, and hope for a fresh start.

We hope the poem moves you—the way it did for all of the staff at Good Sam.

Reminder! We recently created Meal Train links for each of our four shelters, making it easy for folks to sign up to provide a meal.

🍲If you have an event with quality leftover food that could be categorized as an evening dinner (like lasagna etc.), you can use the Meal Train sites to see if one of the shelters needs food that evening--and to sign up.

👫👫Cooking with your family or friends, church members, or other civic groups, can be enjoyable and rewarding!

We know it's a busy time of year, so thank you for thinking of your neighbors in need!

Good Sam Meal Program We Couldn’t Do It Without You Housing and food insecurity are intrinsically linked so our food program is an essential part of our work. With the community’s help, we provide approximately 25,000 meals annually to our guests. Guests Enjoy Stir fry Hearty soups and cornbread...

Turret House needs meal providers! Can you help?

Our new shelter on Barre Street in Montpelier is now open—and already welcoming guests who need a safe place to stay. The next step is making sure no one goes to bed hungry.

For people experiencing homelessness, a reliable meal is more than nourishment. It’s stability in a day that may have been uncertain. It’s the energy needed to focus on next steps—whether that’s finding work, attending appointments, or simply getting through the night with dignity. A warm meal can also be an important reminder that someone cares.

We’re inviting individual volunteers, groups, and local restaurants in and around Montpelier to help provide nutritious, ready-to-serve meals for our guests. To make participation simple, we’ve set up a Meal Train where you can sign up for a date that works for you and coordinate your delivery.

Whether you cook a homemade dinner or organize a group contribution, your support makes an immediate and meaningful difference. Thank you!

We lift up meaningful information from our friends at The Vermont Association for Mental Health and Addiction Recovery during Alcohol Awareness Month, providing a chance to move beyond myths and approach alcohol use with compassion, curiosity, and connection.

Alcohol use disorder affects nearly 29 million people in the U.S., touching every community—including here in Vermont. It’s not simply a matter of choice; alcohol use is shaped by biology, trauma, mental health, and social conditions, yet many people still face barriers to support due to stigma, cost, or limited access.

A harm reduction approach encourages meeting people where they are—whether that means safer use, reduced use, or abstinence—and recognizes that every step toward safety and connection matters.

We can all help by starting conversations, challenging stigma, and supporting more inclusive, compassionate care so that no one has to struggle alone.
