A beautiful Montpelier condo is now available through the Downstreet Shared Equity Program.

221 Barre Street Unit B202 has two bedrooms, 1.5 baths, and a one-car garage. Downstreet’s Shared Equity Program helps people buy homes by offering down payment assistance grants of up to 20% of the market price to buyers who meet income requirements. This grant remains with the home, benefiting future eligible buyers when the home is sold.

It's back-to-school season! To help our community prepare, Downstreet's Resident Services Team provided 17 young residents at Verdmont and Mad River Meadows in Waitsfield with new, free school supplies for the upcoming school year. The backpacks were filled to the brim with notebooks, notecards, pencils, pens, glue sticks, and more.

Our Resident Services staff members coordinate the supports Downstreet residents need to maintain housing stability, access community resources, and improve well-being. Their work is vital to creating security and stability in Central Vermont, and we're thankful every day for their ongoing dedication.

August marks the one-year anniversary of Fox Run Apartments in Berlin, VT.

When Fox Run celebrated its grand opening in 2025, the day was focused on the future: the potential for the 30 apartment homes at Fox Run to bring stability, opportunity, and permanent affordability to its incoming residents.

Today, in 2026, that future is a reality.

This week, Downstreet celebrated the completion of Mary Tapogna's unique mosaic mural at Ward 5 School Apartments.

Earlier this year, Downstreet was recognized for our historic preservation efforts at Ward 5 School Apartments with a 2026 Preservation Award by the The Preservation Trust of Vermont. Mary's staircase mural—funded by the The Vermont Arts Council Animating Infrastructure grant—takes historic recognition a step further by honoring the people of the Ward 5 neighborhood.

Thank you Stowe Land Trust (SLT) for inviting the Downstreet team to the annual Party in the Meadow!

Downstreet was honored to partner with SLT this year on our recent project in Lamoille, Muddy Moose. While SLT worked to conserve 150 acres of land in Morrisville, Downstreet transitioned the eight vacation rentals adjacent to the land into single family homes, six of which are now permanently affordable through Downstreet's Shared Equity Program.

Through environmentally sustainable practices and the advancement of environmental justice, our work contributes to healthy and resilient communities that preserve the beauty and charm that our Green Mountain State embodies. Mosaic artist Mary Tapogna has transformed the staircase leading to Downstreet's Ward 5 School Apartments in Barre into a vibrant work of public art.

Funded by the The Vermont Arts Council's Animating Infrastructure grant, Mary’s work celebrates the history, people, and character of the Ward 5 neighborhood. Neighbors, friends, collaborators, and community members are invited to meet the artist and view the completed mural on Wednesday, August 19, at 2:00pm at the Ward 5 School Apartments staircase at 5 Humbert St.
