🚨🚨Retirement Announcement🚨🚨

At the end of the day on April 30, 2026, Deputy Chief Joseph Aldsworth will retire from the City of Barre after 19 years of unwavering service and dedication.

Deputy Chief Aldsworth’s commitment to public service extends far beyond his time with Barre City. Throughout his career, he has served the region through multiple local EMS agencies, fire agencies, and law enforcement agencies.

Over the years, Deputy Chief Aldsworth could often be found engaging with the community, teaching CPR and First Aid, helping residents connect with services after devastating life events, or cooking burgers and hot dogs at the annual First Night Out event in Currier Park each August, to name just a few examples.

We extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to Deputy Chief Aldsworth for all he has done for the City of Barre and the greater community. We wish him the very best in his next chapter.

This morning at 10:04 AM, the Barre City Fire Department was dispatched to a reported vehicle fire at 411 N. Main Street (Beverage Baron) in the City of Barre.

Upon arrival, crews found a vehicle parked approximately four feet from a structure, with the passenger compartment heavily involved in fire. Firefighters acted quickly and were able to extinguish the fire before it spread to the nearby building.

During the investigation, it was determined that at the time the fire started, two children were secured in child restraint seats inside the vehicle. Thankfully, two bystanders noticed smoke coming from the vehicle and immediately took action, entering the vehicle and safely removing the 4- and 7-year-old children from the back seat.

Their quick and decisive actions likely prevented serious, potentially life-threatening injuries.

The Barre City Fire Department cleared the scene at 10:46 AM.

🚨🚁 BIG NEWS FROM BARRE CITY FIRE & EMS 🚁🚨

After months of planning, budgeting, and “careful consideration”… we are proud to announce the newest addition to our fleet:

Barre City Fire Department Air 1

That’s right — we’ve officially taken emergency response to the skies. This state-of-the-art air transport helicopter will allow us to:
🔥 Beat traffic on North Main Street (finally)
🚑 Reduce response times to almost zero
🌲 Land directly in your backyard (don’t worry, we’ll try to avoid the garden)
🚨 Provide rapid mutual aid… statewide (or at least until we need to refuel)

Outfitted in full Barre City red with gold trim, Air 1 is ready to respond to fires, medical calls, and the occasional maple creemee emergency.

We’d like to thank our partners, our community, and whoever approved this in the budget (we’re still double-checking that part).

In all seriousness — we’re always looking for ways to improve service and have a little fun along the way.

Happy April Fool’s Day from all of us at Barre City Fire & EMS! 😄
