Washington County Mental Health Services Community Mental Health Center - offering a wide variety of support and treatment opportunities for children, adolescents, families, and adults

Washington County Mental Health Services (WCMHS) is designated by Vermont Statute to provide a wide variety of support and treatment opportunities for children, adolescents, families, and adults living with the challenges of mental illness, emotional and behavioral issues, and developmental disabilities. These services are both office and community-based through outreach. The range of services off

ered includes prevention and wellness, assessment and stabilization, and 24 hours a day, 7 days a week emergency response. WCMHS is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit Community Mental Health Center. The agency was established under this name in 1967 and proudly celebrates over 45 years of serving our community. We take a flexible approach to person-centered care for citizens within Washington County and the adjacent towns of Orange, Washington and Williamstown. Guidelines for acceptance and participation in our programs are the same for everyone without regard to race, color, national origin, or religion. Our dedicated staff works to assist each individual to reach his or her goals. Within the last year, approximately 5,000 individuals (8% of the population of Washington County) benefited from the services offered by WCMHS. Five percent of these individuals participated in multiple programs offered across the agency’s divisions, receiving direct services. The remaining 3% were served through educational sessions, community forums, extended family and other non-billable services.

EVERYONE Feel Good Friday: LGBTQ+ individuals are more likely to experience anxiety and depression, not because of who they are, but because of how the world treats them. This month and every month, WCMHS advocates for safe, affirming, and accessible mental health care.

Let's build communities where everyone feels safe to be themselves.

Staff Spotlight: Tina Manning
Assistant Program Manager, IAMHS

This year marks Tina's 18th year at WCMHS, and her journey is one of resilience, compassion, and hope.

Tina once received services herself. Through hard work and determination, she focused on her recovery and transformed her lived experience into a powerful source of support for others. Today, she is a dedicated leader who helps others see what is possible in their own lives.

Outside of work, Tina finds joy in kayaking, bonfires, cooking, making jam, spending time with friends and pets, and creating homemade gifts for the people she loves. She treasures a simple, good life and helps others find their way toward one too.

Tina, thank you for your kindness, your authenticity, and for showing others that recovery is possible. Your story reminds us that hope can change lives—and that sometimes the people who have walked the path themselves become the brightest lights for others finding their way.

Please join us in celebrating Tina and the incredible difference she makes every day.

After decades of dedication, hard work, and making a lasting impact on everyone around him, Phil is officially retiring!

It's rare to find someone who leaves a mark not just on the work they do, but on the people they do it with. Phil is one of those people. His commitment, wisdom, and heart have shaped this organization in ways that will be felt for years to come.

Wishing you all the rest, adventure, and joy you've more than earned, Phil. What a legacy.

Feel Good Friday on Monday: The Doula Project, Good Beginnings and WIC have collaborated to create a free, community-based, childbirth education offering that is designed to meet the needs of many. Folks do not have to be involved with any of these programs to access.

Taught by community doulas Jessica Zonarich and Sienna Flanders, education can look like everything from creating a birth or postpartum plan to an entire education series. It can be virtual, in the community, or in someone's home. The goal is to meet folks where they are at with low barrier access.

Studies show that childbirth education can be a crucial part of building self-efficacy and advocacy, leading to better outcomes and increased birth satisfaction. Both are closely linked to the likelihood of birth trauma and perinatal mood disorders.
