A friendly reminder regarding Museum Passes:

Returnable museum passes can be picked up from the Reference Desk. In order to ensure that passes are available for others, you are only able to pick up a returnable pass after 3 pm the day before your visit if the pass is available and not checked out by another person. Passes are due back to us by the time the library opens the day after your visit.

If you have questions, or would like to request an early pick up or late drop off, please call the Reference Desk at 401-247-1920 x2. Our staff is not able to honor early pick-ups if they are not scheduled in advance.

Barrington Public Library, in collaboration with the Barrington 250 Committee, is hosting a Volunteer Fair on Saturday, May 9 from 10 am – 2 pm and we're inviting local organizations to exhibit and connect with community members who are eager to give their time and talents.

This fair is put together in the spirit of Barrington 250’s May theme, “We the People,” which aims to highlight local individuals and organizations that work to advance the common good through civic engagement and leadership.

This is a wonderful opportunity to:
❤️Showcase your mission and current volunteer needs
🤍Meet motivated community members ready to get involved
💙Network with other local organizations doing great work
❤️Become involved in the Barrington 250th Celebration

Participation in the Volunteer Fair is free. We will provide you with a half of an 8-foot table (shared with another organization) and up to two chairs. We simply ask that you bring your enthusiasm — and maybe a few sign-up sheets!

Register here: https://tinyurl.com/pzc76smp

Space is limited, and participation is first-come, first-served, so please RSVP by Wednesday, April 15 to reserve your spot. If the event fills up before this date, we cannot guarantee additional spots and registration will close early. For ask questions, contact Siobhan Egan at [email protected] or 401-247-1920 x7.

We'd love to have you join us! Together, we can inspire more residents to make a difference right here in Barrington.

As announced at the last Board of Trustees meeting, Barrington Public Library is thrilled about the July 1 opening date of our brand-new rooftop pool, officially designated the Barrington Public Library Aquatic Reading Center.

Our staff is hard at work to make sure everything is in place for opening day. Rest assured, the BPL Aquatic Reading Center will be fully staffed by certified lifeguards — because we take both reading and water safety very seriously.

We are currently accepting applications for certified lifeguards who are passionate about water safety and, ideally, literature.

Qualifications:
🛟Valid lifeguard certification
📚Ability to recommend a good beach read while scanning the water
🌴Comfort with heights
🗣️Experience shushing swimmers preferred but not required

More Information About the Aquatic Reading Center:
Opening on July 1, 2026, the Barrington Public Library Aquatic Reading Center features a full 25-yard rooftop pool, complete with lounge chairs, a poolside bar, and native palm trees — because we've always believed a great library should offer everything you need for a perfect day. Why should the beach have all the good reads?

Important details:
✅Pool hours will be Monday–Friday, 10 am–4 pm and Saturday–Sunday, 12–4 pm.
✅Open to all Barrington library cardholders.
✅Lap lanes are designated quiet zones.
✅Splashing is subject to the same noise policies as the library.
✅Seating is first-come, first-served.
✅Children and teens under 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

To complete the experience, we're offering a special collection of waterproof books for all ages available for checkout at the Circulation Desk — ideal for reading while you float, lounge, or pretend you're somewhere tropical.

Inflatable pool toys, goggles, and beach towels are also available through our Library of Things. No other library materials are permitted on the pool deck including newspapers.

Sunscreen is strongly encouraged. Splashing is, regrettably, inevitable. And yes, our quiet study spaces may smell faintly of coconut this summer.
