This morning, Lake County Stormwater Management Commission (SMC) raised its Flood Threat Alert Status to Red. This is SMC’s highest alert level and signals that Major Flooding is occurring in Lake County. It is mostly contained to the Upper Fox River and Chain O’Lakes area as well as the Lower Fox River in the Barrington area, but is substantial in multiple areas.

As the weather forecast continues to develop for the rest of the week, please stay alert! The weather forecast is currently showing a chance for additional rain at the end of this week and early next week, which could impact flooding conditions.

SMC teams are actively out in the field, continuing to survey these areas to record flood impacts and gather information. Additional information and details will be shared as they’re available.

The Upper Fox River, Chain O’Lakes, and Lower Fox River areas in Lake County are in Major Flood status. Portions of the Upper Fox River and Chain O’Lakes area are expected to peak today. The Lower Fox River in the Barrington area is anticipated to peak tomorrow.

There is a threat of flood impacts to downtown Fox Lake, businesses, and properties in these areas. Please stay alert if you’re located in a flood-prone area.

The water levels of the Fox River and Chain O'Lakes could remain high for a week or two before lowering.

The Des Plaines River continues to lower. The Upper Des Plaines near the Wisconsin state line is still in Minor Flood status.

The Des Plaines River in the Gurnee and Lincolnshire areas is still in a Moderate Flood status and is anticipated to drop to Minor Flood status tomorrow.

Lake County Stormwater Management Commission (SMC) staff have been out in the field inspecting multiple different areas along the Des Plaines River, Fox River and Chain O’Lakes over the past few days to survey the water levels from the heavy and extended rain from last week.

Water levels are still high in many areas along our waterways, but the absence of rain over the last few days has allowed water to lower in a few areas.

We’re closely monitoring the situation and river levels. Additional information and details will be shared as they’re available.

The Upper Fox River near Route 173 and Channel Lake has begun to see a drop in water levels. The remaining portions of the Upper Fox River and Chain O’Lakes area are expected to peak tomorrow. Flooding is substantial in areas, and has reached Major Flood status.

There is a threat of flood impacts to downtown Fox Lake and properties in the area. Please stay alert if you’re located in a flood-prone area.

The Lower Fox River in the Barrington area is anticipated to enter into Major Flood status and reach its peak tomorrow.

The Des Plaines River has begun to lower. The Upper Des Plaines near the Wisconsin state line has dropped into Minor Flood status. The Gurnee area along the river is still in a Moderate Flood status and is anticipated to drop to Minor Flood status tomorrow night.

In Lincolnshire, the Des Plaines River appears to have peaked yesterday and is slowly lowering. It is still in a Moderate Flood status but is expected to reach Minor Flood on Thursday.

The effects of last week’s rain continues as river levels remain high with flooding, especially in the Des Plaines River, Fox River and Chain O’Lakes area. With dry weather expected this week, waterways should slowly begin to recover and recede back to manageable levels soon, but water is still continuing to drain from Wisconsin and throughout watersheds contributing to current flood conditions.

The Chain O’Lakes area is expected to enter Moderate Flood status starting tomorrow morning. Flooding in the area is expected to peak on Wednesday and Thursday. It is possible the water levels in this area could reach Major Flood status.

There is a threat of flood impacts to downtown Fox Lake and properties in the area. Please stay alert if you’re located in a flood-prone area.

The Lower Fox River in the Barrington area is anticipated to become a Major Flood early tomorrow morning with an expected peak on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Des Plaines River is still in Moderate Flood status. The river level in the Gurnee area seems to have peaked today and should begin to slowly lower starting on Monday.

In Lincolnshire, the river remains in a Moderate Flood but could potentially reach Major Flood status. It is expected to reach its peak tomorrow and begin to slowly lower starting on Tuesday.
