BOCADO Tapas Opening in Downtown Barrington This Fall šŸ½ļø

The Village is excited to share the news that celebrity chef, restaurateur and Barrington-area resident Fabio Viviani is opening his latest restaurant concept, BACADO Tapas, in downtown Barrington this fall!

Located at 133 Park Ave., BOCADO will center on shareable plates, bold yet approachable flavors and a thoughtfully crafted beverage program, all within a warm, energetic atmosphere designed for everything from weeknight dinners to cocktails and late-night gatherings.

Looking ahead, BOCADO is only the first phase of Viviani’s plans for Barrington. Phase two will introduce a second concept, Retoro, located downstairs in the same building.

Retoro will feature an intimate, chef-led Japanese dining experience centered on the tradition of omakase, a dining style in which guests entrust the chef with selecting and presenting the evening’s dishes.

For more information, visit BocadoTapas.com or RetoroOmakase.com and follow along on Instagram at .Tapas and .

We’re pleased to welcome these new restaurants to downtown Barrington and look forward to seeing them add even more energy, flavor and excitement to our community!

The Village will continue to share updates on these and other developments on our social media channels and website at barrington-il.gov/development-updates.

Yesterday, Village Trustee Lauren Klauer, Village staff, the Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce (BACC) and community members celebrated the grand opening of Schoolhouse 1873 Gallery & Gifts with a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the chamber.

Located at 323 W. Main St. and built in 1873, this one-room schoolhouse served generations of Barrington before falling quiet. Its restoration honors the original timber, tall windows, and the clapboard that has weathered 150 winters.

Today it welcomes people back through art, gatherings, and beautifully curated goods, offering a place to return to again and again.

For more information about the gallery, classes and the boutique, visit Schoolhouse 1873’s website at schoolhouse1873.com.

Wow! The Baker’s Lake Overlook sign has a fresh new look, thanks to Bakers Bread Co. for reaching out to the Village to inquire about it! ✨

After assessing the sign, our Public Works team jumped into action. Buildings and Grounds Foreman Steve Krantz and Maintenance Worker Brad Poteracki used their expertise to restore the sign and give it a much-needed refresh.

Bakers Lake Bread Co. captured the entire process from start to finish with great action photos and shared some incredibly kind words about the refurbishment:

ā€œBarrington is special because of the people who make it that way. Thank you, Steve & Brad, from Barrington Public Works, for your friendship and partnership to repair the Bakers Lake Overlook sign! ā¤ļøšŸ„ā€

Thank you, Bakers Lake Bread Co., for caring so much about our community. When residents, businesses and Village staff work together, good things happen.

We’re grateful for the people who help make Barrington such a special place!

Water Wednesday: Dump & Drain Standing Water šŸ’§

After a good rain, it’s easy to overlook the little pools of water that collect around your home. But even a small amount of standing water can become a breeding spot for mosquitoes.

Lake County has reported its first 2026 human case of West Nile virus, so now is a good time to take a few minutes to check your property.

Take a walk around your yard and:

• Dump out water from buckets, flowerpots, toys, birdbaths and other containers.
• Drain any standing water you find.
• Check regularly after each rain.

Thank you for doing your part to protect your family, neighbors and community. Every little bit helps us fight the bite! 🦟

New Illinois Law Establishes Rules for E-Mobility Usage 🚲⚔

This week, the State of Illinois passed new legislation establishing statewide safety standards for electric scooters, skateboards, electric and gas-powered bikes, and motor-driven cycles. The new law classifies electric scooters and skateboards as ā€œe-micromobility devices.ā€ It also creates a separate category for motor-driven cycles, which includes electric bikes, gas bikes and e-scooters capable of speeds greater than 28 mph.

For motor-driven cycles, operators will need a special driver’s license, and the vehicles must be titled, insured and properly equipped to operate on public streets. These requirements do not apply to other e-mobility devices.

Please take a moment to review the helpful graphic to familiarize yourself with the new requirements and restrictions for the different types of electric and gas-powered devices. Illinois’ new law takes full statewide effect on Jan. 1, 2027. For additional information, visit the Illinois Secretary of State's website at ilsos.gov/departments/drivers/traffic-safety/micromobility-in-illinois.html

The Village of Barrington also encourages residents to report reckless or unsafe use of e-mobility devices by calling 911. This allows the Barrington Police Department to respond promptly and address the situation.
