At last night’s Board of Trustees meeting, the Village of Barrington proudly welcomed our two new Firefighter/Paramedics, Brianna Spetka and Adam Muentes, with a swearing-in ceremony surrounded by their family, colleagues and fellow first responders.

We are excited to have them both join the Barrington Fire Department and begin serving our community. Their commitment to helping others reflects the values that make Barrington such a special place.

Congratulations, Brianna and Adam, and welcome to the Village! We wish you a safe, successful career in service to Barrington.

Congratulations to Assistant Chief Art Thompson on 30 years of service with the Barrington Fire Department! 👏🚒

Since joining the department in 1996, Assistant Chief Thompson has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to public service, leadership and the Barrington community. His experience, dedication and contributions have made a lasting impact on our department and those we serve.

From his swearing-in in 1996 to 30 years of service today, we are proud to recognize this significant career milestone.

At this week's Board of Trustees meeting, the Village of Barrington was pleased to promote two members of its fire department: Assistant Chief Joel Salvato and Lieutenant Jim Goodwin.

Assistant Chief Salvato, a career member for more than 10 years, was promoted to lieutenant in 2023, holds an associate degree in emergency medicine, and is a certified advanced fire officer, incident safety officer, and fire instructor, among other certifications.

Lieutenant Goodwin joined the department in 1999 and remained until 2014, returned in 2020, and obtained the rank of battalion chief at a previous agency. He holds a bachelor's degree and has earned numerous fire service certifications, including advanced company fire officer, fire service instructor, and certifications in several technical rescue disciplines.

We look forward to them stepping into these new roles and seeing the impact they continue to make in the department and our community. Congratulations, Assistant Chief Salvato and Lieutenant Goodwin!

After 29 years of dedicated service, today we congratulate Assistant Chief Ed Hartman on his well-earned retirement from the Barrington Fire Department.

Throughout his remarkable career, Assistant Chief Hartman has demonstrated exceptional leadership, friendship, and an unwavering commitment to the Barrington community and the fire service.

Over nearly three decades, he has served alongside generations of firefighters and paramedics, answered countless calls, mentored those who followed in his footsteps, and played an important role in shaping the Barrington Fire Department into what it is today.

Assistant Chief Hartman, thank you for your service, sacrifice, leadership and the countless memories shared along the way. Your impact on this department and the people you have served alongside will carry on for years to come.

From all of us at the Barrington Fire Department, congratulations, Assistant Chief Hartman. We wish you and your family a happy, healthy and fulfilling retirement.

The Barrington Fire Department and the Village of Barrington would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in last week's blood drive! Our community came together to make a lifesaving difference during the event, hosted in partnership with Vitalant - Illinois.

The drive drew 19 generous donors, including five first-time donors.

The 17 units of blood collected can help save up to 51 lives in local Chicagoland hospitals.

We look forward to seeing you at our next Barrington Fire Department Blood Drive on Friday, Oct. 23. Mark your calendars, and join us again to help save lives!
