Barrington Library Foundation A private fundraising program conducted under the auspices of the Barrington Library Foundation

The fundraising initiative for the new Library is being conducted under the auspices of the Barrington Library Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit which, in anticipation of the building project, was established in 2016 to accept and manage private funds received during the campaign and, afterward, to provide a vehicle for donations to support the Library in the future.

As the calendar edges toward the holidays and the season of giving, the Barrington Library Foundation would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire community and, especially, our past donors. For us it is gratitude season—and we are not seeking donations for Giving Tuesday this year.

We will continue to support the Barrington Public Library’s mission, including in our role as advocate and fundraiser. But this season, as we celebrate our beautiful library and our generous community, we humbly suggest that our prior Giving Tuesday donors share their generosity with another organization of their choice.

Thank you, and best wishes for the new year!

Last April the Foundation announced that its application had been selected to be a charity partner of the Reno Casino at their Conway site. We’re happy to report that as a consequence of that partnership, we received a check in July for over $22,000! This donation helped cover the cost of the solar installation at the library and is also funding the purchase of some additional furniture for the adult wing.

Our grateful thanks to Revo Casino for this generous support.

The Fabulous Find, a nonprofit resale boutique based in Kittery, Maine, has once again demonstrated its commitment to community enrichment by donating its profits from the month of June to six Seacoast libraries. Among the beneficiaries is the Barrington Library Foundation, which received over $6,000 to support the construction of its new facility.

This generous gift was one of more than 250 private donations that made it possible for the Barrington Public Library to open the doors to its brand-new, welcoming space in July. The modern facility was designed to serve as a vibrant community hub, featuring expanded programming areas, quiet reading nooks, improved technology access, and ample room for collaboration and learning.

“We are deeply grateful to The Fabulous Find and all of our donors who believed in the power of public libraries,” said Roger Gingrich, president of the Barrington Library Foundation. “Every gift, large and small, helped us create a library that reflects our community’s needs and values.”

It was wonderful to see so many people yesterday at the new Barrington Public Library at 426 Calef Highway! A large gathering of residents joined library trustees, staff, volunteers and town officials for the ribbon cutting.

Susan Gaudiello, Trustee Chair, opened the program offering “immeasurable thanks to all those who have helped us realize the dream of a new library for our community.” She reflected on the decades of planning, fundraising, collaboration and hard work that led to this event.

Library Foundation President Roger Gingrich traced the history of the Barrington Library, first created in 1795. The Foundation raised over $540,000 to reduce the cost to taxpayers and to fully fund the solar energy system that is designed to reduce future operating costs. In addition, over $160,000 in price discounts were offered by a number of subcontractors, demonstrating the wide support for the project.

Select Board Chair Tracy Hardekopf spoke of the steps needed for a complex project such as the new library: vision, skills, incentives, resources and an action plan. “Most important is the incentives for the project which can be found in the sense of community that people crave and find in Barrington. It came from a natural recognition that libraries are the last FREE space for all people and from the incentive that the written word is an invitation to free thought and exposure to a broader world than our own circle allows us.” She concluded that “our current and more importantly our future generations will have the gifts that are held within these walls.”

Finally, Library Director Lydia Goodwin thanked residents for their support and invited all to explore the new spaces, which include dedicated sections for children, adults and teens.

🌸A GENTLE REMINDER: to support the Barrington Library Foundation, whose mission is to support the Barrington Library, please shop at The Fabulous Find in Kittery in June!🌸

The Fabulous Find , a 501c3 non-profit organization, is located at 139 State Rd (Route One) in Kittery, Maine. They partner with different worthy, local non-profit organizations each month, donating profits from the month to those partners.

Factors that will make for success:
* The Fabulous Find has a fabulous reputation and loyal shoppers who support their mission.
* People (including, we hope, YOU, dear reader!) will donate high quality, gently used items during the month of June.
* Those beautiful items will be cleaned, steamed, and artfully displayed by the mostly VOLUNTEER staff—causing the items to fly off the racks/shelves.
* We (including you, dear reader) will spread the word, encouraging friends and family to shop early and often throughout the month of June, and at the end of the month, The Fabulous Find will write a check to the Barrington Library Foundation (and to 5 other non-profit organizations supporting Seacoast libraries).

(In the last photo, please note items that The Fabulous Find is unable to accept.🌸)
