Hough Street School

Hough Street School Hough Street School is one of eight elementary schools in the Barrington 220 School District, serving grades K-5. The school mascot is the Hawk.

The original Hough Street School, known as South Side School, opened its doors in 1855, making it the oldest school in the Barrington 220 School District. The old frame schoolhouse stood in the exact spot of the current Hough Street School playground. In 1905 a new building was constructed on Hough Street and it became the original home of Barrington High School, until BHS moved to its current loc

ation on Main Street in 1949. Located in the heart of downtown Barrington, the current Hough building was built in 1967 and it is a prominent feature in Barrington’s local history.

Hough Street Elementary School

Hough Street Elementary School serves approximately 300 students in grades K-5 in the Barrington 220 School District. It is home to the district’s Extended Self-Contained program, which serves identified students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades who demonstrate the need for acceleration and enrichment beyond the scope of both the general education classroom. Other innovative and enrichment programs at Hough include: Fresh INC, Kindergarten Enrichment, PTO Mini Courses and STEM. Hough Street was named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2015. In addition, the school received the Let’s Move! Active Schools National Award in 2016 and 2017.
