Register now for our 42nd annual winter conference, happening in-person on March 23 at Eastern Connecticut State University and featuring a keynote address by Maya van Rossum, founder of Green Amendments For The Generations, a grassroots non-profit organization inspiring a nationwide movement to secure constitutional recognition and protection of environmental rights in every state and ultimately at the federal level.

For decades, communities have relied on laws to ensure protection of a clean environment. The truth is, our laws are designed to accommodate pollution as much as — perhaps even more than — preventing it. As a result people feel powerless when it comes to preserving the quality of their water, air, public parks, and natural spaces. But there is a solution for achieving better, and much needed, protection of our environment: bypass the laws and turn to the ultimate authority — our state and federal constitutions.

Maya van Rossum will discuss a new and inspirational tool for environmental preservation, one that will provide a new way of thinking about and pursuing environmental protection from both a policy and legal perspective.

We all have the right to pure water, clean air, and a healthy environment. Maya's talk will focus on how to truly secure that right, not only for our own sake, but also for that of future generations.

As spring rolls into summer, you might notice some colorful visitors fluttering through your garden! 🦋 There's about 800 species of butterflies native to North America, and you can find quite a few right here in little Rhody! Many of our state's butterflies are absolutely stunning, like the colorful tiger swallowtail. Not all butterflies are bright and showy, though. Many are actually pretty inconspicuous and small, like the skipper family. No matter their size, shape, or color, ALL butterflies are important pollinators and members of a healthy ecosystem. ✅

Butterflies face many threats, such as disease, pesticide use, climate change, and loss of habitat. Luckily, there's a lot everyone can do to help out our fluttery friends, such as pledging to not use chemical pesticides, fertilizers, and herbicides and adding native plants to our gardens to create healthy habitat! 🌱🌼

Want to learn more about our state's butterflies and how you can help? Click the link in our bio to check out our Butterflies of RI fact sheet!
