Paula Lopez Najar

Paula Najar, 83, of Barstow, TX, passed away peacefully on March 4,2026 in Monahans, TX surrounded by her family.

She was born on June 26, 1942, in Barstow, TX to Epifanio and Juanita Lopez.

Paula worked as a housekeeper at the young age of 21 for numerous years with Alfonso and Gloria Vasquez. Then after a few years, she started working at the A1 cleaners where she stayed for many years. While also working for The Big Burger for Dan and Elaine Wetzig. She worked both jobs for 20+ years until she retired in 2009 due to health complications and remained a homemaker until her untimely passing.

Paula was known for being a hard worker, loyal, and honest. In her free time, Paula enjoyed spending time with her family, her grandbabies, sitting outside enjoying nature and attending Iglesia Bautista del Calvario.

Paula is survived by daughters Valerie Garcia, and Stella Santiago (Angel), of Monahans, TX, Priscilla Martinez (Arthur) and Guadalupe Garcia of Odessa, TX, sons Trinidad Lara (Belinda) and Timothy Najar of Monahans, TX. She had 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Sisters Frances Lopez of Monahans, TX and Cruz Lopez of Sugarland, Tx. Brother Epifanio “Nino” Lopez, Jr (Delores) of Monahans, TX.

She was preceded in death by both her parents, her spouse Manuel Najar, her sister Susie Lara, and her son in law Manuel R Garcia, Jr.

Pallbearers are as follows: Rodrigo Zavala, Ethan Zavala, Zackary Martinez, Anthony Santiago, Robert Mercado, Edward Soza

Honorary Pallbearers are Ruben Garcia III (lil Ruben), Dario Garcia, Thiago Garcia, Cristobal Garcia, Steven Cole.

Viewing will be held Wednesday, March 11, 2026, from 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM and Thursday, March 12, 2026, from 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM at Harkey Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church. Burial to follow at Monahans Memorial Cemetery.

Emilio "Hoot" Reyes Anaya

Emilio “Hoot” Reyes Anaya, 79, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Born on October 31, 1946, in Barstow, TX to Jose and Monica Anaya, Emilio lived a life defined by service, hard work, generosity, and devotion to family and community. Known affectionately as “Hoot” by those who loved him, he was a man who never hesitated to lend a helping hand and whose kindness touched countless lives.

Emilio was deeply involved in his community throughout his life, especially in Grandfalls, where he proudly served and supported the local school board. He was also an active supporter of 4-H stock shows and believed strongly in encouraging and investing in the next generation.

During his high school years, Emilio excelled as an athlete, participating in basketball, baseball, and track and field. After graduation, he honorably served his country in both the United States Army and the United States Navy, earning numerous honors and decorations during his military career, including achieving one of the highest scores during basic training. Following his military service, Emilio began his career with Mobil Oil in 1974. Through decades of dedication and hard work, he continued in the energy industry and eventually retired from Energy Transfer in 2018.

Above all else, Emilio cherished his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who devoted his life to caring for those he loved. Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his children and grandchildren, except perhaps the love he shared with his wife of 60 years, Angelina. Family was truly his everything, and he made sure they always knew they were loved and cared for.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Angelina Anaya; his children, Mark and Olivia Anaya of Odessa, Angela Duckworth and Ali Castillo of Odessa, and Erica and Jesse Calderon of Fort Worth; his brother, Joe and Teresa Anaya of Flower Mound; his sister, Ada Ornelas of Alpine; and his cherished grandchildren, Ryan Anaya, Sarah Anaya, Marisai Anaya, Reagan Duckworth, Layla Calderon, Leah Calderon, and Emily Calderon, along with many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Monica Anaya, and his sister, Delores Mendoza.

Emilio “Hoot” Anaya will be remembered for his unwavering love for family, dedication to his community, honorable service to his country, and the kindness and strength he shared with everyone fortunate enough to know him. His legacy of love, service, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.

John Robert Collins

John Robert Collins, born June 27, 1950, in Pecos, Texas, passed away on July 6, 2026. John spent nearly his entire life in Barstow, Texas, a community he loved and remained devoted to throughout his years.

John proudly served his country, first spending four years in the United States Air Force, followed by several years in the United States Navy, where he worked as an electronics specialist. His military service shaped much of his life, and he continued his technical career as an avionics radar technician, known for his precision, skill, and quiet professionalism.

John was preceded in death by his parents, H.A. Collins and Ada Belle Hayes Collins of Barstow; his brothers Jim Collins (and wife Jerry Collins) and Tom Collins; his sister Sally Weisent; and his brother‑in‑law Okey Lucas.

He is survived by his brother Don Collins and wife RobbyE Collins; his sister Patsy Lucas; his sister‑in‑law Mellie Collins; his brother‑in‑law Dwain Weisent; and a large extended family of numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great‑nieces, great‑nephews, and many lifelong friends.

John lived simply and fully. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and reading, and he had a lifelong passion for buying and selling older cars, always on the lookout for his next project or treasure. He took great joy in lovingly tormenting his nieces and nephews with his dry humor, mischievous grin and his infamous “Donald Duck Voice”. Though he was single and had no children, he poured his affection into the family he cherished.

Funeral services will be held at Harkey Funeral Home on Saturday, July 11, at 10:30 AM, followed by a graveside service at the Barstow Cemetery.

John will be remembered for his loyalty, quiet strength, and the steady presence he offered to everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Florencio R Garcia

Florencio R. Garcia, 84, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026. Born on November 20, 1941, in Barstow, Texas, to Juan and Hilaria “Lola” Garcia, Florencio led a life marked by love, dedication, and generosity.

As a widower, Florencio devoted himself to his work and his beloved children. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, always eager to catch a good football game. Friends and family will fondly remember him for his love of westerns and novelas, as well as the joy he found in hunting and fishing during his younger days. Known for his culinary skills, he could whip up a mean bowl of caldo that brought warmth and comfort to those around him. Florencio was always ready to lend a helping hand, a true friend who looked out for the well-being of family and friends alike.

Florencio is preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Hilaria Garcia, his siblings Lupe, Santos, and Elenore Garcia, and his son, Junior Garcia. He also mourns the loss of his stepson, Carlos Tombie Ramos, and stepdaughter, Mary Faye Ornelas.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories, remembered by his children Dorothy Garcia, Priscilla Schlosser, Linda Licon, and Gloria Orona as well as his siblings Luisa Garcia, Juan Garcia, Domingo Garcia and Barney Garcia. Florencio will also be lovingly remembered by his 27 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and his great-great-grandbaby girl.

Visitation for Florencio will be held at Pecos Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with a Rosary service starting at 7:00 PM. A Mass in his honor will take place at Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church in Pecos, Texas, on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 10:00 AM, followed by interment at Barstow Cemetery in Barstow, Texas.

May God rest Florencio’s soul, and may he find eternal peace. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
