Ours thoughts are prayers with the Denton County Sheriff's Office and Robin’s family.

It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Communications Manager Robin Thomas.

Throughout her courageous and hard-fought battle with leukemia, Robin displayed remarkable strength, grace, resilience, and a profound love for life, inspiring all who knew her. We mourn her loss deeply and hold her memory close.

Our deepest sympathies are with her family, loved ones, and everyone whose life was enriched by knowing her. We ask that you keep them in your thoughts during this difficult time.

May we remember Robin not only for what she accomplished, but for the lives she touched and the lasting difference she made.

BARTONVILLE, TEXAS – The Bartonville Police Department is investigating a stabbing that occurred at a local equestrian center on July 19, 2026, on Porter Road in Bartonville.

At approximately 10:49 p.m., Bartonville Police Officers were dispatched to Texas Health Resources Presbyterian Hospital in Flower Mound in reference to a stabbing victim who had been transported to the facility. Upon further investigation, the incident occurred at the victim’s workplace and residence at the equestrian center.

The victim reported that an altercation with two brothers that also reside at the location, escalated into a physical assault during which he sustained a stab wound to the upper right portion of his abdomen. The victim was transported by a friend to the hospital and later transferred to a trauma center for additional critical care.

Officers responded to the crime scene to secure the location. Evidence of a physical altercation and stabbing was observed at the scene. One suspect, identified to be Yonkani Alvarez-Ruiz was located on the property and detained. Yonkani was transported to the Denton County Jail without incident and was charged with Aggravated Assault w/Deadly Weapon.

The second suspect has been identified as Guillermo Alvarez (Pictured). Guillermo remains outstanding at this time and is currently wanted for Aggravated Assault w/Deadly Weapon.

No additional information is available for release currently.

Denton County Emergency Services District No. 1 & 2, in partnership with several local law enforcement agencies, will be conducting active threat response training at The Well in the Town of Argyle (next to Cactus Canyon) on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

During these training exercises, residents may notice an increased presence of emergency vehicles, first responders, and public safety personnel in the area. 🚒🚑🚔

⚠️ Live in the ETJ (Extraterritorial Jurisdiction)? Check before you celebrate! Several municipalities have ordinances that regulate fireworks within portions of their ETJ. If you live in or near Argyle, Bartonville, Copper Canyon, Northlake, or another incorporated area, don't assume fireworks are allowed simply because you're outside the city limits. Verify the rules with your local municipality before using fireworks.

If you choose to use fireworks where they are legal:

💧 Keep a water hose and bucket nearby.
🌾 Stay away from dry grass, fields, and brush.
👨‍👩‍👧 Adult supervision is a must.
🧨 Never relight a "dud."
🐶 Be mindful of pets, veterans, livestock, and your neighbors.

💥Town of Argyle - Fireworks are PROHIBITED within Town Limits by town ordinance and can carry up to a $500 fine. Argyle extends this prohibition onto the ETJ.

💥Town of Bartonville - Fireworks are PROHIBITED within Town Limits, per Ordinance 739-22.

💥 Town of Copper Canyon - Fireworks are PROHIBITED, per Ordinance No. 8.04 and can carry up to a $2,000 fine.

💥Lantana - Fireworks are NOT allowed. A fine of up to $1,000 could be issued per occurrence by the Lantana Community Association.

💥Town of Northlake - Fireworks are PROHIBITED within the town limits or within five thousand feet (5,000') outside the town limits. Fines of up to $2000.00 for each offense can be imposed if found guilty of violating these provisions.

Denton County ESD No. 1 is proud to host Ready to Respond, a unique 4-hour program presented by F1RST for young adults ages 16–21 who are interested in a career in public safety. 🚒🚑🚔

This interactive experience is designed to give future first responders a realistic look at the profession while providing valuable tools to build resilience, manage stress, and maintain long-term health and wellness. Participants will hear real-life stories from local first responders, learn lessons they wish they had known when starting their careers, and gain practical skills that can benefit every aspect of their lives.

F1RST’s mission is to equip individuals with the tools needed to perform under pressure while preserving their quality of life. Through its partnership with the First Responders Children's Foundation, this program helps prepare the next generation of public safety professionals with awareness, techniques, and solutions to address the challenges they may face in the future.

Press Release: Denton County Schedules Ground Fogging in Response to Positive WNV Mosquito Trap

May 28, 2026 – Denton County Public Health (DCPH) is reporting one positive West Nile Virus (WNV) mosquito trap in unincorporated Denton County. The positive mosquito trap is located in the unincorporated area south of Argyle.

DCPH will conduct fogging three times in the area near the positive WNV mosquito trap beginning Friday, May 29, 2026, through Thursday, June 4, 2026, weather permitting. Truck-based ultra-low volume fogging will occur between the hours of 9 PM and 5 AM.

DCPH advises residents to take the following steps to minimize risk of contracting WNV:
• Drain standing water in your yard and neighborhood to minimize mosquito breeding sites such as bird baths, flowerpots, and clogged rain gutters. Consider the use of BTI briquettes, often called mosquito dunks, in standing water that cannot be eliminated.
• Dress in long sleeves and pants when you are outside and spray thin clothing with repellent.
• Defend yourself by using EPA-registered repellent. Check for ingredients like DEET, Picaridin, or Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus.

Detailed maps of fog areas are located on the DCPH West Nile Virus website at DentonCounty.gov/WNV, along with additional information including mosquito maps, latest news, and facts about WNV. Residents in the affected area are being informed via emergency alerts and signage.
