Cigar Factory UPDATE: The CRA recently did another study for the CRA District and what could be the potential and possibilities. This was the response from RMA (Redevelopment Management Associates) for the Cigar Factory. We have a 200 mile "Collier to Polk" Multi-use Trail coming through 2 blocks from this area, and a "Scenic 60 Hwy." designation coming through town (Main Street) going right by. They hit the nail on the head in the visual with the front facing the west or facing Church Street. This has been called a "catalyst" project in 5 other studies to spur redevelopment in this area of town. Our special places and buildings are a big part of telling our cities stories. Gathering spaces are what bring community together. We shall see!

Parade starts at 6:00pm, but they won't make it down to Main Street till about 6:20ish. I will be updating to let you know when I go LIVE!

Great meeting last night which was a joint meeting between the City Commission and CRA Board.

The City Manager, CRA Director, Attorney & Staff did an excellent job of preparing a comprehensive presentation with the resulting desire to reach a mutual consensus regarding the proposed set of analytical criteria and future process for evaluation of interested vendors in the East End Cigar Factory Catalyst Area project.

Next steps will be for City Manager, CRA Director and staff to meet with the 4 interested parties to go over the criteria, give them time to prepare, then set a date for the presentation, discussion and scoring. The presentation/scoring will be an all day meeting.

Our best result would to be able to work with ALL of these developers. We have plenty of need and they came to us, so maybe one day that will come to pass.

For now we are off to an exciting start.

From the National Register of Historic Places. The Cigar Factory was listed to this register in 2002. Some history about the factory and some folks that worked there.
