On April 25, 2000 our program was forever changed. Our colleagues were returning to base in their helicopter, a BK-117 N428MB, from St. Petersburg to Tampa. At 1216 hrs a collision occurred with a radio tower. Our crew made the ultimate sacrifice that day. Their sacrifice along with others who have died in the HEMS industry, have led to the safety practice we follow today. Their deaths were not in vain. They died in service to their patients, their team mates, and we who carry on their memories and legacy. This memorial marks the spot where they gave everything. The helipad at St. Joseph's Hospital is also dedicated to their honor. 21
years have passed, and we will never forget you. Rest in honored glory Pilot Mark Wallace, Flight Nurse Alicia Betita-Collins, and Flight Paramedic Erik Hangartner 💙

Another life saved with blood delivered in flight. LifeNet 5 carries blood products on every flight, and we see the difference that can make in patient outcomes. Hopefully our New York partners will be able to do the same one day soon.

A man who lost both his legs last month in an accident on his farm is on a mission to change a law in New York -- a law he says could mean the difference between life and death. On March 13th, Travis Flanagan was harvesting corn on his farm in Greene when a horrific accident cost him both his legs.....
