Town of Basalt This is the OFFICIAL Town of Basalt page. Don't settle for imposters! The town was incorporated in 1901.

Basalt lies in the heart of the Roaring Fork Valley between Aspen and Carbondale/Glenwood Springs, Colorado. The town was named for the basaltic rock formation on Basalt Mountain, and began as railroad town.

Announcing new expanded Basalt Connect service to Crown Mountain, Summit Vista, and Emma. Riders traveling to and from the expanded service area must begin or end their ride at a transit stop in Crown Mountain, Summit Vista, and Emma with the exception of trips to City Market. This provision allows the town to continue its funding partnership with RFTA.

The Basalt Police Department’s 8th Annual Community Police Academy begins June 18th, and we still have a few spots available!

Have you ever wondered what really happens behind the scenes in policing? This free 10-week program gives community members a firsthand look into the many aspects of law enforcement and the work our officers do every day to serve and protect Basalt.

Participants will learn about:

🔹 Criminal law & municipal code
🔹 DUI & traffic enforcement
🔹 Investigations & evidence
🔹 Mental health response
🔹 Use of force & de-escalation
🔹 Dispatch & public information
🔹 Specialty units

This academy is designed to build understanding, strengthen relationships, and create meaningful connections between our department and the community we proudly serve.

The Town of Basalt wants to make the community aware that scam emails may be circulating asking residents and applicants for projects to submit payments on an attached invoice. The Town will NEVER ask for an electronic payment for an invoice transmitted via email to the public. When in doubt, call to verify before opening any attachment or responding.
Never open or pay an email invoice from a sender you don’t know. The scam email is using a web address that has the word basalt in it but it's not official. It ends in . If you have questions, please contact the Town of Basalt at 970-927-4701 or use our website www.basalt.net to contact a staff member directly.
