Hello Basehor! Thank you for helping us keep our streets, sidewalks, and trails safe for everyone.

UPDATE FROM 5/27/2026: Mayor Drennon has authorized this topic to be discussed at the City Council Work Session on Wednesday, June 10 at City Hall (1600 N 158th Street). The Regular Meeting starts at 6 pm, and the Work Session starts at the conclusion of the Regular Meeting. Public comment will be allowed on this topic on June 10, but timing may be limited. The public is encouraged to send their feedback on this item in advance of this meeting to the City Clerk to be included in the official record. Please make sure to include your name and address in the communication for the record. This feedback can be sent via email to [email protected]. Please note that the topics of this post are not on tonight's agenda, and therefore, public comment will not be allowed on this matter during tonight's City Council Meeting.

Here is the link for additional information related specifically to golf carts and ATVs: https://www.cityofbasehor.org/DocumentCenter/View/3815/2025-Standard-Traffic-Ordinances-for-Kansas-Cities

Related to e-bikes and e-scooters - there are provisions in the City's code that state these regulations do not apply for mobility devices, both for people with disabilities and the elderly.

The purpose of the post was to bring awareness to the community of the restrictions already in place regarding these types of vehicles. No recent vote has happened regarding these items. Positive or negative, all feedback from the community is important. We look forward to hearing the community's feedback on June 10 so we can find a workable solution to move forward.

---------- END OF UPDATE ----------

😎 Hello, Summer! ☀️ As the weather gets warmer, the City of Basehor wishes to provide clarification regarding recreational vehicles and specifically where these vehicles are allowed to be used within City limits. It is important to note that these provisions have been included in the City’s Municipal Code since 2005, and this social media post serves as a reminder.

E-scooters, e-bikes, golf carts, go-carts, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), and side-by-sides are not allowed within City limits except on private property. The Basehor Police Department has begun proactively reminding the public, and signage will be placed throughout the City. Utility vehicles used for maintenance purposes are allowed under certain circumstances.

A few weeks ago, the City received a report of a 3-year-old child being struck by one of these recreational vehicles operated by an unattended minor at one of the City’s parks. Although it was an accident, it was entirely preventable and absolutely unacceptable. Before you ride, know the rules. If you break the rules, please be prepared to interact with a member of the Basehor Police Department. 🚓

To report a violation, please contact the non-emergency number at 913-682-5724. To view the City’s Municipal Code, please click here: https://online.encodeplus.com/regs/basehor-ks/

BUCKLE UP, BASEHOR!

One of the safest choices drivers and passengers can make is to wear a seat belt every trip, every time.

Seat belts are your best defense against impaired, aggressive, and distracted drivers. In a crash, being properly buckled up helps keep you safe and secure inside your vehicle by slowing your movement and spreading crash forces across the strongest parts of your body.

A simple click can save a life.

✅ Driver or passenger — buckle up
✅ Front seat or back seat — buckle up
✅ Short trip or long trip — buckle up

Drive smart. Stay safe. Buckle up, Basehor.

UPDATE: Sheriff Woody has been safely recovered and returned home!

The Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in locating one missing cowboy identified as “Sheriff Woody.” 🤠

Woody was last seen patrolling Basehor City Park near the playground area. Witnesses report he may answer to phrases such as:
• “There’s a snake in my boot!”
• “Reach for the sky!”
• “You’ve got a friend in me.”

The reporting children are devastated and have requested “all available units” assist in bringing their partner home safely.

Description:

• Cowboy hat
• Yellow plaid shirt
• Friendly smile
• Extremely loyal
• Possible signs of wear from years of important missions

If located, please contact the department immediately so Woody can be reunited with his family!
